This is a dual posting with job ID 53762. Only one position will be filled between both postings, depending on the qualifications of the final candidate and seniority.

Job Description

Nature of Work:

Perform skilled work on a journeyman level in the installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of pneumatic, electric, electronic, and direct digital control (DDC) heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) on control systems. All work is subject to spot checking and inspection for conformance to specifications and accepted standards of the trade.

Building Controls System Technician is a four-step title. Personnel working in this classification will automatically advance to the Building Controls System Technician II upon successfully completion of necessary requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, repair and/or replace pneumatic, electric, electronic and DDC heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems according to design drawings and/or specifications.

Perform preventative maintenance procedure on HVAC pneumatic, electric, electronic and DDC control systems; diagnose control problems and overhaul, either individually or as part of a team, various building pneumatic, electric, electronic and DDC controls systems.

Locate and obtain components required for building pneumatic, electric, electronic and DDC control systems.

Clean, maintain, safely operate and properly store all tools and equipment. Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation.

Locate, purchase, and order materials and tools for jobs and manage delivery and storage of those materials. Perform or assist in the preparation of cost estimates, reports and maintenance of records.

Actively train and work toward completing necessary skills and tests for Building Control System Technician II.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Direct supervision is received from a designated supervisor. Oral and written instructions are supplemented by plans, drawings or blueprints.

Supervision Exercised:

May instruct and/or guide personnel assisting in work.

7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Minimum Qualifications

* A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
* Four years actual work experience and training, including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training, in the HVAC controls trade OR 18 months' experience with completion of vocational education training in desired field.
* Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes.
* Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of applicable trade.
* Ability on a daily basis to:
- Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trade tools and equipment.
- Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects (50 lbs.)
- Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, lift, and otherwise move equipment, controls, parts, etc.
- Visually assess maintenance, construction and repair needs
- Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
* A valid State of Missouri Driver's License must be held and maintained by incumbents in the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with commercial electrical experience, including installation of conduit and wiring, troubleshooting HVAC motor starter/VFD circuits, and simple electronic controls and relays.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
