Application Window Open date: November 25, 2024 Next review date: Thursday, Jan 2, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Thursday, Jan 2, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATION/UNIT SUMMARY OF POSITION EDUC 160: "Transformative Research in Community-Based Settings" Seminar, four hours. This course provides an introduction to the broad tradition of transformative research in education - public scholarship that aims to disrupt long-standing educational inequities in partnership with local communities. This tradition includes youth participatory action research (YPAR), community-based participatory research (CBPR), and other collaborative approaches that value diverse forms of expertise and knowledge. A key aspect of this work is to think carefully about history and power dynamics across stakeholders and develop ethics and practices to attend to them in thoughtful and intentional ways. While there is no required fieldwork as part of this class, students will have opportunities to develop the ability to analyze education in social and political context, develop skills for effecting change, and demonstrate understanding of multiple perspectives, diversity, pluralism, and social justice.
