What You Will Do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join and lead our talented team in Valley Forge, PA. Our specialists possess in-depth expertise to excel in the most challenging geotechnical assignments. We deliver innovative solutions for foundations, underground construction, earth structures, groundwater resources, and marginal building sites. Our geotechnical engineers and geologists are experts in addressing landslides, sinkholes, mine subsidence, seepage, expansive soils, and seismic activity. With a proven track record of completing over 1,000 subsurface and geophysical projects across the U.S., we have successfully supported a wide range of endeavors-from small-scale developments to large, complex dams, highways, bridges, and underground structures.

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead geotechnical engineers and assist project managers in planning and overseeing subsurface explorations and performing analyses for transportation, facilities, water resources and other types of projects. In the capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Leading geotechnical staff in planning and overseeing field explorations, construction projects, laboratory testing, and geotechnical design and analysis, including shallow and deep foundations, stability and seepage analyses of earthen embankments, settlement estimates, earth retaining systems, and ground improvement assessments for complex sites.
  • Developing or reviewing comprehensive design packages, including geotechnical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Collaborating within a team environment to deliver geotechnical engineering services.
  • Serving as the lead geotechnical engineer and/or project manager on diverse engineering projects for public and private sector clients.
  • Developing proposals and contributing to business development activities.
  • Assisting senior staff in managing client relationships, supporting business growth, and expanding the scope of existing services.
Education | Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required; a Master's Degree with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • 15-20 years of relevant post-graduation working experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required, preferably in Pennsylvania (PA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and geotechnical software, including gINT, ALLPILE, GEO-SLOPE, GRLWEAP, LPILE, PLAXIS, SHAFT, and SETTLE3D.
  • Willingness to travel, including extended periods at remote project sites, regional offices, or as required by project scope.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 30 pounds and navigate steep slopes and rough terrain.
  • Strong analytical skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Experience with Pennsylvania transportation projects, such as PennDOT and SEPTA, is preferred.
