DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an intern, you will collaborate with park personnel on a variety of projects, gaining valuable insights into Park Operations, Resource Management, Administration, and Environmental Education. Your responsibilities will include interacting with visitors both in the office and in the field, addressing inquiries related to park amenities, recreational schedules, historical context, environmental attributes, and the surrounding region. Delivering exceptional customer service will be essential to ensure that each visitor has a memorable experience.
You will work alongside park staff to develop and implement a maintenance program that guarantees the upkeep of park grounds, structures, facilities, and equipment. Additionally, you will assist in coordinating recreational and educational activities to maximize the effective use of park facilities. It will be your duty to report any violations of park rules and regulations to law enforcement personnel, while also gaining knowledge about the enforcement actions taken by Ranger staff to uphold compliance with the Crimes Code, Vehicle Code, and Fish and Game laws applicable within State Parks.
Your role will also involve making suggestions regarding park operating policies, standards, and guidelines to enhance local operations. Collaborating with regional and park staff, you will learn the intricacies of managing a park's natural resources, which encompasses the preparation, maintenance, and adherence to resource management plans. Furthermore, you will assist park staff in drafting letters, reports, and other correspondence as needed, and help prepare press releases to keep the public informed about park activities, programs, schedules, and special events.
In addition, you will support special events and work alongside volunteers, contributing to the overall success of these initiatives. You will also assist Environmental Education staff in delivering recreational and environmental education programs. Participation in park inspections, including swimming beach and pool inspections, will be required, and you will need to complete written reports documenting your findings.

- Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following majors:
- Environmental Science
- Biology
- Wildlife Technology
- An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable.
- Freshman year completed
- Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
- Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
