Liaison Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Health Disparities and Public Policy program in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is conducting the Northwestern Juvenile Project: a 30-year longitudinal research study of the needs and outcomes of youth in juvenile detention as they age. Participants were originally sampled from a juvenile detention center as adolescents between 1995-1998, now median age 43. Three- to four-hour structured interviews are conducted 7 days a week in participants' homes across the Chicagoland area, in correctional facilities, and via Zoom or phone when participants live too far away to be interviewed in person. Multiple interview waves with varying participant eligibility criteria and unique interview protocols are ongoing.

This position will manage the interview-set up operation, distribution of tracking cases, and review of incoming administrative and interview data. They will supervise 2 Research Project Liaisons and 1 Data Editor. They will conduct weekly team meetings. They will coordinate & complete the day to day administrative & technical activities involved in a single complex, large, nationwide biomedical research study involving longitudinal assessments. They will ensure that all activities are completed by strictly following all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)

Please note: This role is a hybrid position, with at least 3 days required in-office on Northwestern's Chicago campus.

Supervisor provides objectives, deadlines and specific instructions only for new, difficult, and/or unusual work. Work is reviewed upon completion and only occasionally to verify technical accuracy and compliance with practice, policy, and procedures. EE informs supervisor of on-going progress and/or potentially controversial matters.

Specific Responsibilities:

Technical

• Reviews project & protocol & recommends strategies to expedite study.
• Recruits & retains participants.
• Obtains informed consent.
• Collects, compiles, tabulates &/or process responses.
• Gathers information.
• Monitors & maintains systems for effective participant and data flow for studies

Administration

• Manages study databases which may include ensuring that data is collected & entered correctly.
• Creates & maintains study manuals regarding operating, safety, and etc. procedures.
• Ensures that all study documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols are completed in a timely manner.

Finance

• May process payments for research participants per study protocol.

Supervision

• Trains, directs, assigns duties to & may supervise research staff, students, residents &/or fellows.
• Acts as a mentor in regard to education of junior coordinators

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 4 years' research study or other relevant experience required; OR
• Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 2 years' research study or other relevant experience.
• Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

• Strong organizational skills
• Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel
• Ability to generate reports from existing database

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years' working on a longitudinal research study
• 2+ years' experience with recruitment and retention of at-risk adults
• 2+ years' experience with data cleaning
• 2+ years' experience working with mixed methods data collection

• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Teams
• Familiarity with relational databases and APEX interface
• Familiarity with structured data collection including REDCap interface
• Comfort working with at-risk adults and teens
• Strong interpersonal skills (listening, encouraging, explaining)
• Aptitude for precise and accurate work

Target hiring range for this position will be between $23.20 to 32.62 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
