Job Description

Department: IT - ECWS Group

Position Overview:

The ECWS group in the IT department is seeking a highly motivated CO-OP student to join the Applications/System Administration team. This position will provide hands-on experience assisting in streamlining daily operations, enhancing the security of current applications, and improving documentation practices. The CO-OP will work closely with a mentor to assist with various technical tasks and support critical applications used within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Content Management System Support: Assist in managing and maintaining content management systems such as Drupal, including its modules, upgrades, and ensuring the overall health of the application.
  • Application Maintenance: Support the upgrade and troubleshooting of application-level software and pre-requisites.
  • Research & Documentation: Research modern capabilities for existing systems and document tasks and processes to improve current operations.
  • Atlassian Software Suite Management: Assist in managing applications like the Atlassian software suite (JIRA, Confluence), and their dependent add-ons.
  • Knowledge Base Updates: Collaborate with team members to update and organize the knowledge base to reflect current operating practices. Help create a centralized portal for team members to access dynamic and consistent information.
  • Security Audits: Assist in auditing systems for security vulnerabilities and support efforts to harden and secure systems.
  • One-on-One Meetings: Participate in weekly one-on-one meetings with the team lead to discuss progress, challenges, and development goals.
  • Primary Administrator Mentorship: Work with a primary administrator in your assigned discipline to receive focused guidance and mentorship.



Technical Skills:




  • Some understanding of Linux and Apache is necessary.
  • Knowledge of the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) is desirable.
  • Basic understanding of system administration and security practices.



Experience:



  • Some experience working in an IT environment is required.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, particularly Drupal, is a plus.



Soft Skills:



  • Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to organize and present technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.



Additional Requirements:



  • Must be enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar field).
  • A positive attitude and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced IT environment.
