Job Summary

Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes.

Under general supervision of the Director of Nursing in the Cancer Center and guided by the policies of the Medical Center, the Radiation Oncology Clinical Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting the onsite operations of Radiation Oncology at Mission Bay, Mount Zion, Parnassus and Berkley Outpatient Clinics.

This position is responsible for assisting the Director and team members with all aspects of the operation, including but not limited to:

  • Assuring compliance with all regulatory and patient safety goals of each site
  • Develop, implement and monitor compliance for policies and procedures that require standardization across campuses and satellite clinics
  • Maintains close working relationships with support service departments to ensure regulatory compliance in the clinics that meet patient safety and service standards
  • Develop, implement standardization of medical assistant activity and workflow.
  • Train staff and Department Leaders on standard work.
  • Ensures compliance of standard work for medical assistants across sites
  • Implements and rolls out clinic projects including new IT software, new equipment and new processes within UCSF for Radiation Oncology and supports other Adult Cancer Services departments on an ad hoc basis.
  • Lead the administration and management of material resources needed in Radiation Oncology Clinics while maintaining budgetary compliance with guidance of the Nurse Managers and Administrative Directors.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $97,900 - $149,000 (Annual Rate).

Radiation Oncology at UCSF is provided at four main campus locations (Mission Bay, Mount Zion, Parnassus and Berkley). Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience as a team lead or supervisory experience in a clinical setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Ambulatory care clinical experience.
  • Experience with QA/The Joint Commission processes for quality improvement

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience using an EMR-Epic/APEX
  • Radiation Oncology experience
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced project management skills.
