Senior Telecommunications Technician

Seneca Technologies is seeking Senior Telecommunications Technicians with expertise in carrier circuits and KMZ map files. The candidates should have experience using the ArcGIS system by Esri for route viewing and analysis. Familiarity with Google Earth is also valuable.

Candidates must have in-depth knowledge of high-speed fiber optic communication systems. They should understand the importance of diverse circuit routing and the complexities of how carriers place and share fiber assets. The primary focus of the positions involves gathering, structuring, loading, and analyzing multiple KMZ files.

The analysis will aim to identify areas with potential single points of failure caused by converged fiber routing. Engineers will collaborate with other teams to develop alternatives for correcting these issues. This role is critical to ensuring robust and reliable fiber network infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Research CUSTOMER systems to identify dark fiber paths and circuits, match these to map files, and collect KMZ mapping data from carriers globally.
  • Annotate, structure, and load KMZ files into the ArcGIS analysis platform while mapping logical and physical connections with CUSTOMER engineering.
  • Utilize the ArcGIS system to identify and document fiber path convergence by comparing circuit routes, ensuring proper file structure for parsing and analysis.
  • Classify and record circuit overlaps by ID, carriers, and network types, and highlight areas of shared paths globally.
  • Collaborate with engineering to address identified diversity issues, confirming whether paths meet design objectives and recommending alternatives as needed.
  • Document acceptance of designs or new service recommendations to ensure proper service separation.
  • Coordinate with Telecom to issue RFPs for replacement circuits, verify carrier-proposed routes for compliance, and recommend the best solution.
  • Document analysis results, reasons for circuit selection, and maintain logs for accepted routes and findings.
  • Develop a yearly review plan to ensure diversity compliance for critical paths, inspecting 1/12 of inventory monthly.
  • Validate new circuits for diversity, track carrier path changes, and address discrepancies through audits and mitigation.
  • Provide structured KMZ data for accurate analysis and standardized documentation for each analyzed circuit.
  • Establish a long-term audit strategy that includes compliance with CUSTOMER requirements and incorporates newly added circuits into audits.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in carrier circuits and KMZ map files, with the ability to gather, structure, and analyze data effectively.
  • Proficiency in using the ArcGIS system by Esri for route viewing, analysis, and data visualization.
  • Experience with Google Earth and its use for mapping and analysis of fiber network infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of high-speed fiber optic communication systems and their operational complexities.
  • Strong understanding of diverse circuit routing and how carriers place and share fiber assets.
  • Experience identifying single points of failure caused by converged fiber routing and proposing alternatives.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering teams to address diversity issues and ensure robust network design.
  • Skilled in documenting findings, creating structured data, and maintaining accurate logs for circuit analysis and recommendations.
  • Familiarity with RFP processes, including evaluating carrier-provided KMZ maps and ensuring compliance with routing requirements.
  • Commitment to long-term audit strategies, including annual review plans and continuous validation of circuit diversity compliance.
