Job Summary

The Program Manager reports to the Assistant Dean (AD) for Postdoctoral Scholars in the Graduate Division and is responsible for applying UCSF procedures for managing related policies, programs, resources, processes, and information systems. This person supports the Assistant Dean in the oversight of UCSF's 1100 postdoctoral research scholars across four professional schools to interpret, develop, and apply policy, procedures and programming as it relates to postdoctoral scholars.

Position relies on the expertise to prepare and plan programs and events for postdoctoral scholars including all project management and communication. This role will manage and support listservs, manage websites, create and give presentations for postdoc orientations and other events, assess events or courses through surveys, including collection of participation, metrics, and budget for programs and/or event delivery.

The Program Manager provides expertise, guidance, advocacy, and resources to prospective and existing postdocs, staff, and faculty related to all aspects of the postdoctoral experience.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $116,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Student Academic Affairs' Business Office oversees financial and fiscal matters across various units: Vice Chancellor's Office, Graduate Division, Office of the Registrar, Student Financial Services, Student Life, Student Health & Counseling, Student Information Systems, Educational Technology Services, International Students & Scholars Office, Office of Career & Professional Development, and Office of Institutional Research. Related to student funding, the Business Office manages $16.8 million to financially support PhD students and $115M in student financial aid resources to award professional students scholarships/grants, fee offsets, loans, and work study assignments.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Proven ability to manage and support programs using advanced organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
  • Strong policy analysis techniques
  • Computer literacy with skill proficiency with MS products and Zoom
  • Knowledge of the support, practices, and funding related to sponsored research programs

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in related field
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of skills related to managing varied complex projects and programs independently and often simultaneously under deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and perform at times with minimal supervision
  • Computer literacy with skill proficiency with RedCAP, Qualtrics and other UC applications
