The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in conjunction with Seton Family of Doctors ("SFOD") and Ascension Seton, is seeking a board certified/board eligible Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty and serve on our outpatient clinical team in Austin, Texas. We seek a physician who will help our Department achieve our goal of working with our community partners to develop clinical, educational and research initiatives that revolutionize how people get and stay mentally healthy in Central Texas and beyond.

Our department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post-graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st-century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide informed, evidence-based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings. About the Position

We seek candidates committed to providing exemplary care and treatment that restores hope and helps patients live healthier, fuller lives. A clinical assignment will occur through our Department's collaborations with Seton Healthcare Family with the physician providing clinical care in various outpatient settings as part of a multidisciplinary team. Primary responsibilities will include providing world-class medicine and clinical expertise to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of mental health challenges in pediatric subspecialty clinics to provide integrated psychiatric care.

The physician would also provide psychiatric care to children and adolescents as part of the Community Psychiatry Workforce Expansion (CPWE) program. This program is part of recent legislative funding to increase access to pediatric mental health services across Texas.

The physician would also work with our Dell Children's Psychiatry Team to provide on-call coverage on our Mental Health Unit and within the hospital.

The successful candidate's appointment within the Department of Psychiatry at Dell Medical School requires regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents. In addition, the physician will have the opportunity for collaborations that allow for the pursuit of innovative clinical programming and research initiatives.

Essential Functions

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist demonstrates comprehensive knowledge in child and adolescent psychiatry, particularly in the developmental aspects of treatment and assessment. This includes possessing the necessary communication skills to effectively gather information during clinical interviews, interpret age-specific responses to treatment, and understand the impact of psychosocial systems on care. Additionally, the psychiatrist is well-versed in age-specific psychopharmacology and adheres to established standards of care in providing psychiatric evaluations, whether in-person or via telemedicine. These evaluations are thoroughly documented in accordance with guidelines, with diagnoses supported by clinical findings.

The psychiatrist provides ongoing medication management services, performs psychiatric emergency evaluations, and assists in crisis intervention, ensuring that proper documentation and recommendations are made. Collaborating with patients, guardians, and other professionals, the psychiatrist prescribes medications based on diagnosis and target symptoms while accounting for other medical conditions. Lab work is ordered and reviewed as needed, with timely adjustments to treatment made based on results. The effectiveness and tolerability of medications are carefully monitored, and patient education and consents are provided as appropriate.

In their role, the psychiatrist documents all services promptly, maintains professional records, and participates in treatment team meetings, peer reviews, and quality management activities. Adherence to professional standards, policies, and billing practices is expected, along with maintaining licensure and certifications. Additionally, the psychiatrist fosters a collaborative and respectful work environment, upholds ethical standards, and meets productivity expectations. For the CPAN program, the psychiatrist provides consultations to primary care providers and offers telehealth evaluations, supporting the management of mental health cases in primary care settings.

Qualifications

Qualifications



  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain prior to appointment.
  • Board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, or board eligible with a commitment to obtain certification within two years.
  • Eligible for credentialing and privileging by Ascension Seton.
  • Eligible for credentialing and privileging in the local mental health authority.
  • Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor or higher in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
  • Demonstrated leadership, clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence/motivate others at all professional and administrative levels.
  • Must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence.
  • Must possess tenacity, self-motivation and initiative necessary to drive the development and maintenance of established and new programs.
  • A track record of being able to lead, direct, and influence a team regardless of reporting lines, as well as be a team player.
