Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Person in this position is responsible for the delivery of face-to-face Day Center activities and services to clients participating in the program. Essential Job Functions include those listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Complete assessment of each client to determine their individual strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences.
  • Initiate and sustain each individual's motivation to participate in treatment, using techniques of engagement including therapeutic relationships, individual counseling, and brief interventions based on the stages of change.
  • Develop a comprehensive service plan for each client that includes the results of assessments, and short- and long-term treatment goals and objectives of the client.
  • Monitor the clients 'progress with their individualized treatment plans through all phrases of the program.
  • Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups on the basic concepts, emotional incarceration relapse prevention, motivation for treatment and the stages of change, communicable diseases, cognitive skills, conflict resolution, fundamental social skills, and personal moral development.
  • Maintain all information according to the laws of confidentiality as required by the Federal Register, General Provisions, Title 42, Chapter 1, Part 2, which prohibits making disclosures without the specific written consent of the client, or as otherwise permitted by such regulations.
  • Submit all individual client data on a weekly basis for entry into the WestCare database.
  • Prepare and submit all reports as required.
  • Assist in development of client discharge and aftercare plans.
  • Attend all required staff development training, including WestCare in-service training such as conducting assessments, clinical skills, developing service plans, emotional incarceration, relapse prevention, motivation for treatment, and stages of change, cognitive skills, conflict resolution, social skills, moral development, communicable diseases, and self-help groups.
  • Must Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of WestCare Foundation; and
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

COMPENTENCIES:



  • Knowledge of offender populations, criminal subcultures, and cultural differences, substance abuse assessment tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from LEIE, MSIL, and EPLS.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare's vehicle insurance is required.
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and an annual Tuberculosis test.
  • During your tenure with WestCare there may be new requirements, including, but not limited to vaccinations that are issued by local, State, Federal, and/or Funders that WestCare may have to comply with. Should this occur Human Resources or appropriate personnel will inform you.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:



  • Experience consistent of one (1) year of providing direct substance abuse counseling services to the criminal justice population is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Addiction Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or a related field is preferred.
  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:



  • Alcohol and Drug Registration and actively pursuing Certification, in good standing by an agency approved and recognized by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is required at time of hire; Preference will be given to those candidates who are currently Certified. Must be certified in substance abuse services within two (2) years of employment.


WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Work is primarily performed in an office or in a residential treatment setting; and
  • Some outdoor activities may be required.
