Position Summary:

Under minimal supervision of the Sr. R&D Project Manager, project managers, and/or senior manager, performs a wide variety of bench and pilot plant tests including making up product prototypes. Assist in a variety of sales presentations as they relate to supporting culinary development.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work under the supervision of the R&D project managers and culinary chefs to run routine product samples including sample preparation in the lab or in the pilot plant, analytical and sensory evaluation and data entry in the AS400/S Drive
  • Responsible for the overall cleaning and organization of the R&D lab including stocking of all lab supplies, ingredients and small wares and maintaining lab equipment. Sourcing and ordering ingredients from other plants and external suppliers
  • Conduct shelf life test on new products, including analytical testing, sensory evaluation, sending samples to microbiology lab (end of shelf life) and recording of results
  • Assist in the initial startup of new formulation/new process. This includes testing samples and gathering info needed for RA, Man Pkt. preparation
  • Responsible for collecting, packing and sending out customer's samples, ingredients and finished products requested by other R&D locations
  • Assist in filing, recording of formulations and other technical information
  • Responsible for evaluation of samples submitted by Sales/Marketing for in-house product match through analytical and sensory testing. Participates, conducts, evaluates, interprets, and reports results on a variety of project and culinary experiments
  • Traveling to and purchasing of ingredients/foodstuffs/lab materials from local supermarkets, restaurant chains, and other stores
  • Comply with all Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), safety procedures, company policies, quality policies and procedures, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points as they apply to this position
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • Associate's Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biology or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 1 or more years of experience in a food manufacturing or processing environment required.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint computer-based programs as well as Outlook email
  • Ability to learn basic operation of lab and pilot processing equipment along with job related computer software system
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with different groups within the company and be fluent in the English language
  • Requires basic math skills
  • Basic knowledge of analytical testing procedures including monitoring production batches, following process and procedures and ability to distinguish flavor characteristics

  • Salary Base Range of$48,288.00 -$59,575.00for Employees Located in California*

The range provided is for California-based employees as Ventura Foods is required by California State Law to post pay rates. Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography.
