Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the maintenance of all golf course equipment at the University Ridge Golf Course, including gasoline and diesel engines, dump trucks, loader tractors, mowers, and small engine equipment. The University Ridge has 70 varying types of equipment and vehicles to maintain. This position is responsible for adjusting and sharpening of cutting units, scheduling and implementing preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting and repairing equipment breakdowns, maintaining parts inventories, and keeping equipment records, all within the prescribed budget and allotted time. This position communicates regularly with supervisory staff to prioritize equipment adjustment, maintenance, and repair based on specific goals and conditions.


Responsibilities:
Performs diagnosis, maintenance and repairs to automotive vehicles, small engines, large/agricultural vehicles and related equipment to ensure effective functioning of institutional vehicles and equipment.

  • 50% Inspects, maintains, and repairs complex parts and systems for small, automotive, and large-engine vehicles and equipment under general supervision to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • 15% Identifies and troubleshoots complex vehicle and small-engine issues and collaborates with work unit staff to resolve issues
  • 10% Documents completed maintenance and repairs according to established policies and procedures
  • 5% Serves as a point of contact for individuals providing information and updates about vehicle and small-engine maintenance and repairs
  • 20% Maintains, repairs, and sharpens reel and rotary cutting units associated with various golf course mowing equipment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- At least three (3) years of experience in an equipment maintenance field.
- Knowledge of gas and diesel engine repair.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems for several types of equipment.
- Knowledge of maintenance of turf related reel and rotary mowing equipment.
- Ability and willingness to assist with golf course tasks and operate equipment when necessary.
- Must pass background check.
- Hold a Wisconsin driver's license.
- Have basic keyboard and computing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- One or two years of vocational training in equipment maintenance.
- Previous experience as a golf course mechanic or turf equipment technician with high-level tournament experience.
- Strong capabilities in leadership, communication, problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in reel sharping, internal combustion engines, and golf course maintenance practices.
- Welding and fabrication skills a plus.
- Knowledge and interest in the game of golf.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office.


License/Certification:

Preferred
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards


Work Schedule:

This position is a full-time 40 hours a week and it requires the incumbent to work a flexible schedule including numerous evenings, weekends and overtime, primarily during the golf season.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% University Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
