About This Role

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated Small Animal Emergency team to help facilitate exemplary patient care and quality customer service. This employee provides assistance in the care of patients through independently performing technical procedures and administering treatments. Other responsibilities include training of students and employees on various tasks, monitoring medical records, and collaboration with colleagues to meet patient care standards. Shifts for this position may vary depending on department needs, however, typical working hours will include Saturday-Sunday from 12am-12pm, and Monday-Tuesday from 12am-8am.

Worksite Option

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
  • Two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts, animal behavior and animal husbandry.
  • Advanced knowledge of nursing care, service flow, and section requirements.
  • Ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to work with and provide preventative maintenance for ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment.
  • Ability to adhere to appropriate safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in high intensity environment.
  • Skilled in time management and prioritizing daily tasks.
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication, written and oral.
  • Skilled in basic computer skills.
  • Ability to train other employees.
  • Be willing to master new techniques.
