Position Description:

The Department of Business Analytics within the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa invites applications for one or more non-tenure Instructional Track Faculty Position in Business Analytics at the levels of Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice, Associate Professor of Instruction or Practice, or Full Professor of Instruction or Practice starting August 2025. Rank will be based on experience and record of achievement. Position(s) may range from 50% time (teaching 4 classes/year) to 100% time (teaching 8 classes/year) and include a 1-7 year contract, determined by rank and experience, with benefits. For more information about the Instructional Faculty policy, refer to the Policy Manual 10.9.3

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and prorated based on percentage of appointment. Salaries for 100%-time faculty with undergraduate degrees and industry experience will start at $80,000, with master's degrees at $100,000, and with PhD degrees at $110,000. Appropriate background checks (e.g. criminal background and credential checks) will be conducted.

The Department

Analytics is the transformation of data into insight for better decision making, and Business Analytics is the application of Analytics to Business. As the process for transforming data into insight is inherently multi-disciplinary, Business Analytics lies at the intersection of Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics (particularly Optimization), and Business.

The Department of Business Analytics (https://tippie.uiowa.edu/business-analytics) in the Tippie College of Business has been at the forefront of research in Analytics for decades and, as the recipient of the 2021 INFORMS UPS George D. Smith Prize (https://tippie.uiowa.edu/news/tippie-analytics-wins-major-international-analytics-award), was recently honored as a top department in the world for preparing students for careers in analytics.

The Department of Business Analytics offers a BBA in Business Analytics and Information Systems, an MS in Business Analytics (both part-time and full-time programs), as well as a PhD degree. Through its Tippie Analytics Cooperative, the Department is actively engaged with local, national, and Fortune 500 companies to continually enhance and improve student learning. The Department also hosts an annual international Analytics Case Competition and Women in Analytics and Leadership Conference.

Education Requirement:

PhD in a related field,

OrMaster's degree in a related field with 1 - 3 years industry experience,

OrBachelor's degree in a related field with 5 - 10 years industry experience.

Required Qualifications:

Experience in any area related to business analytics, either teaching and/or in industry, as noted in required education.

Desirable Qualifications:

Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level in any area of Business Analytics is desired.

We particularly seek candidates who are prepared to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: Python programming, data mining, business process automation, digital project management, databases, information visualization, or supervising analytics projects with companies.
