General Summary of Position
Responsible for the daily maintenance of floors in the facility including ancillary areas. Refinishes and maintains vinyl flooring, wood flooring, and cleans carpeted areas. Performs a variety of other duties as needed including cleaning of patient areas and custodial duties as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sweep and mop hard surface floors.
  • Vacuum carpets.
  • Remove and transport trash
  • Operate floor machines, rinse extractors, floor scrubbers and other electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Collect and transport biohazard and hazardous waste
  • Strip and wax floors.
  • Set up conference rooms and move furniture.
  • Transport beds.
  • May work outside on grounds.
  • May be assigned to work in the laundry.
  • Clean equipment and notify management of equipment needing repair.
  • Clean housekeeping closets.
  • May clean patient areas and discharge rooms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED preferred


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
    • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
    • Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission, values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.
    • Exhibits professionalism, courtesy and excellent customer service, while interacting with patients, guests and co-workers.

    • Knowledge, skill, and ability to operate floor machines.
    • Ability to lift, bends, climbs, and operates heavy equipment.
    • Ability to work with others on various projects within the environmental services department.

    This position has a hiring range of $17.5 - $28.73
