Bioinformatician IV - Cancer - 40 hours - Days

Henry Ford Health System
United States, Michigan, Detroit
Dec 27, 2024

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Works independently with investigators and clinicians in the design, collection, processing, and analysis of study that generate data in one or more of the following domains: -omic (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics), imaging (e.g., medical imaging technologies and histopathologic images), electronic health records, and emerging bioinformatic data areas.

  • Develops goals, methods, procedures, and analytic pipelines.
  • Provides in-depth analysis of studies using a variety of computational/statistical methods, bioinformatics tools, and prepare interpretive reports.
  • Applies both biological and bioinformatic skills to evaluate biomedical informatics data in single domains (e.g., SNP array and next-generation sequencing data) and/or integrate data across multiple domains and time points (e.g., computational biology).
  • Devises and documents new approaches to analyze these data.
  • Develops and documents new approaches to bioinformatics in pursuit of statistical research which may be published as an independent bioinformatics statistical research project.
  • Generates first author papers.
  • Takes a leadership role for departmental projects or initiatives.
  • Oversees the work of other bioinformaticians and data processes.
  • Acts as a technical resource and provides guidance to support personnel.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree in genetics or statistical genetics; pharmacology; biology (particularly molecular, evolutionary, or computational biology); biostatistics; bioinformatics; data mining; engineering with a healthcare focus, physics, or a comparable degree/training.

OR

  • Ph.D. in genetics or statistical genetics; pharmacology; biology (particularly molecular, evolutionary, or computational biology); biostatistics; bioinformatics; data mining; engineering with a healthcare focus, physics, or a comparable degree/training.

  • Published at least two (2) or more first author papers.
  • Currently acting as a full co-investigator in one (1) or more research programs and in the design, implementation, and analysis of research studies.
  • Ability to research independently and provide publishable report and analyses.
  • Experience working with statistical/bioinformatics software packages (e.g., R, Bioconductor, SAS), scientific programming skills (e.g., Python, C, Java, shell scripting), and knowledge in working in a Linux and/or command line environment is required.
  • Cloud computing skills and experience preferred.
  • Alternatively, having deep knowledge in working with, collecting data, and cleaning data in the previously mentioned bioinformatics data domains may substitute for the previously mentioned experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with research and clinical staff of various levels, as well as to assist in research grant applications, to present at scientific conferences, and to prepare and submit scientific manuscripts for publication.
