THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and driven individual to fill the role of Attorney 2. This position entails overseeing and managing the entire audit, compliance, and risk assessment program, ensuring that all processes run smoothly and effectively. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will oversee and manage the entire audit, compliance, and risk assessment program, ensuring that all processes are effectively directed and executed.

In the legal domain, you will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and approving various legal documents, including complaints, answers, and preliminary objections. Your involvement in litigation will encompass trial preparation, discovery, witness preparation, and settlement negotiations, with the authority to settle within the guidelines established by the Executive Director. You will manage moderately complex litigation cases involving Commonwealth agencies and boards, such as the Board of Property and the Civil Service Commission, as well as handle disputes in tax assessment and claims across various courts, including county, federal, and Commonwealth Court. Additionally, you will address appeals in litigation matters before the Courts of Common Pleas, Commonwealth Court, Superior Court, and federal courts. Your role will also require you to engage with other Commonwealth agencies on sensitive policy issues and represent the Chief Counsel at meetings in their absence. You will prepare, review, and approve a wide range of legal agreements and documents, including contracts, cooperative agreements, land exchanges, and memorandums of understanding. Conducting necessary legal training and performing legal research using resources like Westlaw will also be part of your responsibilities, along with providing advice on personnel matters and executing other duties as assigned by the Chief Counsel or management.

In terms of compliance, you will be tasked with planning, organizing, and directing all auditing activities for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. This includes overseeing financial, compliance, and operational audits related to fiscal operations, as well as directing the development, interpretation, and enforcement of applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 45-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 2 days a week upon successful completion of training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional legal experience and graduation from an accredited school of law; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Post Employment Requirements:

  • You must be certified for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and must maintain membership on a continuous basis during employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
