DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will oversee inmate work crews in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a boiler plant that provides heat and hot water for institutional needs. You will be supervising inmates and maintaining proper security while ensuring work is performed under safe operating procedures. In this position, you will support the efficient operation of six boilers fired by natural gas, including two steam boilers and four high-temperature hot water boilers. Solid knowledge and effective communication skills are necessary to lead inmates in the standard principles and practices of boiler plant operation, while exercising care and custody of inmates at all times.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
