Overview

The Lead Plumber is responsible for carrying out the direction of the department director to provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for all patients, parents, visitors, and employees of the hospital. The Lead Plumber is responsible for providing new hire orientation and training and is responsible for coordination for vendors and contractors. The Lead Plumber is responsible for carrying out continuous quality improvement efforts as well as reporting productivity to the Chief Engineer. The Lead Plumber assists the director in developing new procedures, work practices, and data collection, to comply with all City, State, Federal, OSHA, NFPA, and JCAHO codes/requirements.

This is a Day-Shift role at our main campus in KCMO.

The Lead Plumber will have the following certifications upon hire:

    Backflow Preventer Certification
  • Medical Gas Certification

Responsibilities

Effectively and efficiently perform all Lead Plumber functions:

  • Plumbing Troubleshooting and Repair
  • Installation of new plumbing and fixtures
  • Preventative maintenance of all plumbing and support items.
  • Maintenance and installation of Medical Gas Systems
  • Drain Auguring and Jetting

The Lead Plumber will provide leadership to the Plumber/Fitters as authorized, provide orientation for new employees, provide in house training for all employees, and perform coordination with vendors and contractors:

  • Maintains proper stock of all plumbing supplies and other items needed for planned maintenance.
  • Maintains accurate inventory lists of equipment such as backflow preventers.
  • Provides technical expertise on a daily basis as needed
  • Hands out the prioritized daily work assignments as discussed with the Chief.
  • Daily visual checks of all employees checking safety, productivity, and additional needs, parts, etc.
  • Assists in insuring that all logs, P.M.s, and work orders are filled out correctly.
  • Assists in continually upgrading P.M. task descriptions as necessary
  • Orders department supplies such as parts, nuts, bolts, etc.
  • Notifies the Chief or Director of day to day problems and accomplishments.
  • The Lead Plumber performs department meeting safety training, makes recommendations for improvement,
  • Provides orientation for new employees and in house training for all employees.
  • Assists the Chief and makes recommendations for improvement in performing continuing in house education.
  • Assists the Chief and makes recommendations for improvement in performing continuous quality improvement.
  • The Lead Plumber assists the Chief in regularly (ie: during regular morning meetings and department meetings) promoting the writing of Event Reports for situations and events that may require future follow-up.
  • Assists the Chief in closely monitoring day-to-day operations to ensure that when an event happens, an Event Report is completed and sent to Risk Management.
  • The Lead Plumber will utilize various computer systems and software to perform the above.

Assist the Director to ensure all City, State, Federal, OSHA, NFPA, and JCAHO codes and requirements are met or exceeded:

  • The Lead Plumber communicates with the Chief and Director as necessary to assure compliance.
  • Assists regulating agency personnel in the performance of conducting surveys or inspections.
  • The Lead Plumber assists the hospital insurance representatives with on site inspections and tours.
  • Assists the Director in data collection, organization, and verifying accuracy of the in records necessary for JCAHO.
  • Follows all instructions in the department policy manual and the disaster manual.
  • The Lead Plumber will utilize various computer systems and software to perform the above.
  • The Lead Plumber will attend project meetings as required and assist the Chief and Director in monitoring all new construction.
  • Attends meetings pertaining to all construction and / or remodelling projects at the facility.


Qualifications

  • High School diploma, or equivalent, and 5-7 years' experience. Previous hospital preferred
  • Backflow Preventer Certification Required Upon Hire
  • Medical Gas Certification Required Upon Hire

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $27.62/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.



Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
