Job Description

Raymond West is seeking a detail-oriented Project Control Specialist to ensure the financial success of large-scale systems installations and projects. This role involves tracking project costs, managing budgets, forecasting expenses, and aligning costs with project milestones. The specialist will collaborate with project managers, project coordinators, and functional departments to provide accurate cost reporting, analyze variances, and identify process improvement opportunities. Key responsibilities include:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project cost tracking, financial analysis, and budgeting, with excellent attention to detail and analytical skills. This position requires close collaboration with project coordinators and project managers to monitor project costs, schedules, forecasts, and budgets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities will vary with the specific position. Typical responsibilities are listed below. This list is not inclusive.



  • Cost Management & Tracking:

    • Establish and maintain project cost baselines, budgets, and forecasts.
    • Track and validate actual costs against project budgets, reporting any discrepancies.
    • Support cost allocation and ensure accurate expense reporting.
    • Accurately track labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs across multiple projects.
    • Ensure all cost allocations are correctly applied to corresponding projects and systems.


  • Forecasting & Financial Reporting:

    • Develop and maintain regular project cost reports for internal stakeholders, highlighting variances and areas of concern, and prepare cost forecasts and cash flow projections based on project progress and updated schedules.
    • Collaborate with the Finance team to reconcile cost data and support month-end reporting processes.
    • Present financial performance insights to project managers and leadership teams to facilitate data-driven decisions.


  • Change Management:

    • Evaluate cost implications of scope changes and project adjustments.
    • Update project budgets and financial forecasts to reflect approved changes.
    • Ensure project budgets are aligned with organizational financial objectives.
    • Ensure clear documentation and reporting of all change orders.


  • Variance Analysis & Risk Mitigation:

    • Analyze cost variances, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions to project stakeholders.
    • Proactively identify risks to project budgets and propose solutions to minimize financial impact.


  • Process Improvement:

    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance cost visibility and operational efficiency.
    • Improve visibility into project costs and performance through enhanced reporting systems.
    • Partner with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and reduce inefficiencies.


  • Collaboration, Communication & Support:

    • Work closely with project coordinators, project managers, and other functional departments to integrate costs with project schedules and deliverables.
    • Support project financial reviews, providing detailed cost breakdowns and performance insights.
    • Serve as a resource for team members on best practices for cost management and reporting.
    • Assist in project reviews and ensure timely updates to cost-related data.
    • Support the preparation of project cost data for audits, internal reviews, and external reporting.




Required Skills/Abilities:



  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills to collaborate across project teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including cost models, data analysis, and pivot tables.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Procore, or Microsoft Project.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as DMS or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Excellent Organizational Time Management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with employees, Co-workers, and Managers in other departments
  • Must be willing to work off-hours as specific needs dictate and willing to assume more responsibility as required.


Education/Experience:

Minimum Education and Experience: Determined by position



  • Recommended preferred experience: bachelor's degree, Finance, Accounting, Project Management or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in cost control, budgeting, or financial analysis on large-scale projects in industries such as construction, energy, manufacturing, or infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to analyze project costs, monitor budgets, and prepare accurate forecasts.


Travel Requirement:



  • 5% (2 1/2 hours a week)
  • Must be able to be insured by Raymond West.

Pay Range:



  • The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $93,000. The specific pay offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.


Qualified candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
