Brief Description:

The Corporate Accounting Director will lead a set of accounting activities to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies, and external audits. This person will oversee all corporate accounting functions for our Drilling Products business unit, including inventory, fixed assets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, the monthly close process, accounts reconciliations, and preparation of reports in support of the financial statements.

The successful candidate will: set high standards of performance for themselves and others; be professional; possess leadership capabilities, solid operational and technical accounting background, and work proactively to drive results. This person is a self-starter, flexible, has a high level of integrity, and is action and goal-oriented in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment.

This position will report to and work closely with the Controller for our Drilling Products Organization.

Detailed Description

  • Manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations, and report preparation.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies, including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
  • Continued focus on improving system efficiencies and business practices.
  • Participate in strategic financial projects including upgrades and the implementation of ERP software.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
  • Interacts at all levels and with budget owners or other stakeholders to produce timely, efficient, and accurate month-end close and all internal management and financial reporting through annual report.
  • Responsible for hierarchy and scalability in chart of accounts and accuracy in the general ledger and financial statements and has authority over classification and booking of all transactions.
  • Analyze the effect of statutory accounting practices and studies regulations and guidance to ensure correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Make recommendations for changes as needed, and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed, and has a continuous improvement mindset with respect to enhancing processes and internal controls.
  • Review and post detailed journal entries and account analysis.
  • Assist with compilation of information for preparation of tax returns, audits, and ad hoc requests.
  • Work with Audit, Tax, and Treasury Manager to ensure overall coordination of all financial accounting activities through annual report.
  • Prepare summary feedback of financial statements variances to budget.
  • Actively review and advise on financial and accounting processes.
  • Develop and communicate cash flow projections.
  • Supervise team of Managers and Senior Accountants to ensure they are motivated and provided proper support to meet their job duties and responsibilities.
  • Analysis and review of accrued capital expenditures inclusive of but not limited to, receipts not yet invoiced, trade payables, and open purchase orders.
  • Investigate aged or reconciling items within the construction in progress account.
  • Analyze asset register monthly to ensure proper classification and management of assets.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to always maintain Company and employee confidentiality and handle sensitive information to protect Company proprietary information in an appropriate manner.
  • Highly developed business acumen with advanced analytical, interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Intricate attention to detail and accuracy, dependable, efficient, organized requiring little supervision are imperative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and provide information to all levels outside and within the organization, including executive management.
  • Strong time management skills required; ability to prioritize, reprioritize, multitask and be flexible.
  • Excellent computer skills to include various accounting business systems, external customer applications, and advanced experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with emphasis in Excel.
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Ability to adapt and adjust in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work under time-sensitive deadlines and maintain a calm and professional demeanor when adversity is encountered.
  • Must be able to work independently, multi-task and prioritize under pressure and within timeline constraints.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in accounting or related field of study.
  • 12+ years' experience in accounting (with public corporate accounting department, Big 4 accounting firm, or combination)
  • 8+ years of managerial/supervisory experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in business administration or Master's in Professional Accounting
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Experience with SAP's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Additional Details:

This position requires the person to be able to work in a time sensitive, high visibility role while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor when adversity is encountered. Work is primarily in a climate controlled / office environment with minimal safety / health hazard potential. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, or walk with occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending and frequent near vision use for reading and use of computer, telephone, and other office equipment. All applicants must be able to commit to a full-time schedule.
