Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): A Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification. Two (2) years full-time experience working in an animal research facility. Experience caring for the major laboratory animal species. Supervisory experience. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications: AALAS certification in lab animal facility management (CMAR or ILAM). Three (3) or more years of full-time experience working in an animal research facility.
Brief Description of Duties: The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) Animal Care Manger will supervise the animal care section and manage the day-to-day care to ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) Policy and Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) standards at all sites. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills and an understanding of the basic workings of a laboratory animal facility.
Duties:
- Direct supervision of the animal care supervisors and caretakers.
- Oversee and ensure proper on-the-job training for all animal care workers.
- Oversee and ensure staff compliance with all DLAR Standards Operating Procedures and Policies.
- Work with investigators, post-doctoral fellows, and students to resolve outstanding issues relating to the care of laboratory animals.
- Supervise the Animal Care Program when the Clinical Veterinarian and Attending Veterinarian are ill or on vacation.
- Perform product ordering of all animal-related supplies required for daily animal care.
- Audit topaz animal care-related recharge, research discrepancies, and correct deficiencies.
- Assist in preparing Program descriptions required by AAALAC prior to site visits, and in documentation for site inspections from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and NY State Public Health.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes: This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.
