What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Metallurgy and Welding Engineering team is seeking support from an R&D Undergraduate Year-Round Intern! The intern should be majoring in mechanical, materials, electrical, or related engineering or STEM discipline. This individual should be able to work on site in Albuquerque, NM as their school schedule allows. They should have laboratory experience, be able to use word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation software, and can use and/or learn design and scientific software e.g., Solidworks, Thermo-Calc, Matlab, etc. Knowledge of metallurgy is a huge plus.

On any given day, you may be called on to:



  • Prepare metallographic samples, collect and interpret metallographic images

  • Apply fundamental materials and metallurgical process development and property characterization principles to Metallurgy issues and challenges

  • Interact with members of the team to develop process parameters and conduct experiments

  • Evaluate, assess, and handle data and create and modify graphic representations of data

  • Participate in team meetings and projects



Salary Range:

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:



  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program

  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

  • Ability to secure and maintatin a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship



Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.

Qualifications We Desire:



  • Enrolled in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering degree program.

  • Completion of Basic Science and Engineering Undergraduate Laboratories, Basic Physics, Basic Chemistry, and Introduction to Engineering Courses.

  • Hands on experience with metallographic sample preparation

  • Familiarity with microscopy techniques and imaging

Security Clearance:
