JOB SUMMARY
Installs, repairs, inspects, overhauls, troubleshoots and performs maintenance to power plant equipment and systems. Electrical tasks include but are not limited to repairing and retrofitting electrical motors and distribution transformers, breaker repair, conduit installation, cable installation, maintain control systems, switching procedures in the 345Kv range, along with general plant maintenance activities.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

* Performs responsibilities with standardized processes. Works under general supervision. Resolves routine questions and problems using basic principles of field. Refers the more complex issues to higher levels. Generally follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job. Some latitude for deviation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* All other duties as assigned.

* Repairs, inspects and maintains coal handling equipment and auxiliaries and plant elevators, if applicable.

* Repairs, inspects and maintains turbine/generator and turbine/generator auxiliaries.

* Operates, sets-up and utilizes various testing equipment (i.e. analog/digital multimeters, VOM/Ammeter, AMP probe, megger, phase rotation meter, breaker and relay test sets, oscilloscope, high voltage tester, low resistance Ohm meter, etc.).

* Operates various industrial equipment (i.e. forklifts).

* Performs electrical maintenance activities to power plant electrical systems up to and including 24Kv.

* Assists with layout work.

* Repairs, inspects and maintains boiler and boiler auxiliaries.

* Performs general craft tasks and uses power and hand tools.

* Reads and interprets revisions on electrical schematics, drawings and prints.

* Assist with the disassembly and inspection of connection hardware for the Main Generator, Iso Phase Buss, and Main Power Transformer.

* Connect and troubleshoot Motor Operated Valves.

* Assist with Generator Protection testing (Interlock Checks).

* Obtain and maintain switching procedure.

* Continually seeks process improvements that have value and increases productivity.

* Troubleshoot and reclaim alarms from Variable Frequency Drives and other electronic equipment.

* Run conduit, pull cable, and wire plant equipment.

* Complies with all safety and regulatory requirements, both internal and external.

* Maintains environmental control systems (i.e. precipitators).

* Acquires knowledge and understanding of basic plant principals and processes.

* Utilizes SAP/PM module for equipment history and input confirmation text of work performed.

* Performs and understands rigging and lifting procedures to access components.

* Maintains programmable logic controllers (PLC) and recorders.

* Works with other craft and plant personnel as required.

* Maintains and inspects switchgear, station power batteries, transformers, AC/DC motors and controls and plant electrical distribution systems.

REQUIREMENTS

* Associate's Degree in a technical discipline, And 1 year experience in a technical field; Or

* High School Diploma/GED And 3 years' experience in a technical field; Or

* Prior military experience for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214, And 2 years experience in a technical field.

* A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a technical field is equivalent to 1 year of technical experience.

* Experience must include 1-year industrial electrical experience in a power plant or other process-controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

* May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.

* May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.

* May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on-call and call-outs.

* May require travel.

* May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.

* May work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.

* Required to work in a multi-craft crew including Mechanics, Electricians, Insulators, Instrument & Controls Technicians, Helpers and Machinist who work together to support the operations of the plant.

* May be required to cross-train in various crafts and operation departments at various times of the year.

SPECIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

* Member will not be required to drive in order to perform their job duties.

* The handling, packaging, processing, storage, disposal or transport of hazardous materials;

* The operation of equipment, machinery or power tools;

* Repairing, maintaining or monitoring the performance or operation of any equipment, machinery or manufacturing process, the malfunction or disruption of which could result in injury or property damage;

* Performing firefighting duties - Fire fighter duties does not include responding to incipient stage/coal fires;

* The extraction, compression, processing, manufacturing, handling, packaging, storage, disposal, treatment or transport of potentially volatile, flammable, combustible materials, elements, chemicals or any other highly regulated component;

* The operation, maintenance or oversight of critical services and infrastructure including but not limited to, electric utilities, power generation or distribution;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAS)

* Assist with the installation of conduit, cable runs, and electrical wiring.

* Knowledge of the National Electric Code and ability to locate and obtain Electrical Specifications.

* Knowledge of the execution of an "Order for Switching".

* Knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.

* Knowledge of basic math.

* Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity working with mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, electric motors, air compressors, valves, welding, fabrication, construction, pipefitting, etc.).

* Attend Generation Switchman's Training and practice switching.

* Ability to use common purpose hand tools and other materials of various craft trades.

* Ability to work with minimal supervision, following approved work methods and standard testing practices.

* Computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.

* Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt across varied working conditions and evolving business needs.

* Ability to interact effectively and professionally with team members, leaders, and customers.

* Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose problems, and resolve effectively.

* Ability to understand and comply with company policies and operation procedures.

* Ability to understand plant and equipment systems/processes.

* Demonstrated strong ability to comply with safety policies and seen as a leader in IIF (Incident and Injury Free).

* Demonstrated knowledge of print reading and revisions.

* Ability to learn semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks.

* Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing
