Overview
RTI International seeks a prospect for the Proposal Development Internship within the Social, Statistical, & Environmental Sciences (SSES) unit. This internship is a contract position. The employment contract is administered by Greene Resources Powered by Array, RTI's supplemental staffing partner. The Proposal and Capture Team is focused on proposal development and core business growth for the Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences (SSES) business unit. Proposal and Capture Managers partner closely with Strategic Account Executives, Business Development, Research, Finance and Contracts staff, serving as proposal process expert on capture and proposal development strategies. The Proposal Development Intern will assist proposal teams who support multiple efforts across the Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences Business Unit at RTI. This is an opportunity to obtain a broad understanding of proposal development operations in various stages of business development, working closely with RTI Proposal and Capture Managers, Business Development, Subject Matter Experts, Financial Analysts, and Contract Negotiators. Learning Objectives:
- Learn and/or advance knowledge on the federal, state, and foundations contracting industry from a proposal development perspective, including knowledge of subcontracting requirements, government compliance, contract and grant types
- Gain experience in project management working in a team environment
Responsibilities
- Review Request for Proposals/Applications (RFP/RFAs) for requirements to create organizational materials to facilitate the proposal development process
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with Proposal Managers, Management, Financial Analysts, Office of Contracts, BD Team and research staff in various stages of business and proposal development
- Document discussions, decisions, and action items during proposal meetings
- Compile and review documentation for compliance in proposal submission(s) to a variety of clients including federal and state government, commercial firms, and foundations
- Archive proposal submission documents
- Other activities as requested in support of proposal development efforts (competitor research, compliance checks, etc.)
RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences. Interns are exposed to the institute's mission to improve the human condition through projects, professional development trainings, and networking. Program participants have opportunities to engage with staff and fellow interns virtually and in-person. Each summer, interns are encouraged to participate in RTI's annual internship showcase. A two-day hybrid event, the end-of-summer celebration showcases internship experiences and achievements. Come and grow with us! Additional Information This is a paid-fully remote internship. The internship is scheduled to start May 2025 and end August 2025. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 32 hours per week. Hours per week will not exceed 40. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship
- Currently enrolled graduate (master's/doctoral) or undergraduate (junior/senior) student OR recent degree recipient (degree received August 2024 or later)
- Majoring or degree received in business administration, public health, public policy or administration, political science, communication, journalism, marketing, science or related field
- Ability to search share drives, internal website, or other databases
- Ability to understand and follow written guidelines including departmental policies, procedures, and work orders
- Problem solving, organizational, attention to detail, and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to multitask and work independently as well as with team members to collectively meet proposal deadlines (i.e., in coordination with members from technical, contractual, financial, and administrative units)
- Ability to work 40 hrs a week remotely or at HQ on an established regular schedule
- Proficiency in Adobe PDF and Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate level student or recent degree recipient
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
- Excels at time management
- Experience with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Salesforce, a plus, but not required
