Summary:

The New Product Development Senior Manager is responsible for supporting the strategic plan and successfully executing product design and development for both new products (New Product Commercialization). and enhancements to existing ones. This includes the management and execution of product design, specifications, test method development, product usability, problem-solving, prototypes, Design Excellence, and quality initiatives. The role is responsible for leading, guiding, and developing an R&D team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, creative problem-solving, collaboration, and high-performance, while ensuring the completion of successful projects and initiatives. Strong collaboration with other departments such as marketing, design assurance, quality, clinical, engineering, operations, is essential to ensure alignment across resources, priorities, and projects. Hollister operates in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities:




  1. Portfolio Development: Partner with other leads of the business including R&D, GMO and Operations to support development of the future Hollister product portfolio. This includes alignment with Ostomy strategy, support of the pre-charter process, and effective prioritization of projects.
  2. Product design and development: Leads and organizes all product development activities for new products and enhancements to existing ones. Oversees the lifecycle of product development from ideation to market launch. Leads the design and development process (through the NPD team) ensuring good planning and execution of product design on all projects. This includes concept development, usability, problem solving techniques, and creating detailed product drawings, specifications, prototypes, testing, and design controls. Demonstrates customer focus with the ability to understand customer requirements and incorporate them into business and product decisions. As part of Design Excellence, supports and ensures that phased technical design reviews are completed to a high-level and ensures products meets regulatory and market requirements.
  3. Brand/Product Leadership: Partner with the NPD Manager, Dansac to implement best practices for product design and development. Primary role will focus on Hollister products but will include leading and/or supporting specific Dansac product development projects and initiatives.
  4. People management: Leads and motivates direct reports to perform and execute projects as a high performing team member. Motivates reports to achieve personal development and provides stretch assignments to develop talent. Defines training requirements with each Associate for continuous development. Sets impactful objectiveand goals and continuously coaches on effective design practices, team collaboration, problem-solving, and project management. Hires and retains highly qualified team and provides on-going performance feedback.
  5. Resource management: Effectively and efficiently manages resources including time, budget, and personnel to meet project goals and deadlines.
  6. Functional Development: In collaboration with R&D manager peers and Human Resources, manages the performance and development of the New Product Development function. This includes developing and maintaining the skills, competencies, expertise, and knowledge required.

Collaboration: Works with team members to ensure good planning and execution of product design and development activities/requirements (includes design, specs, test methods, problem-solving techniques, design controls, Design Excellence, etc.). Customer Knowledge: Demonstrates customer focus and agility with the ability to understand a range of customer requirements (clinician, end-user, payer, and channel) and support the NPD team to incorporate these needs into business and product and business decisions. Leads the team in learning and understanding customer needs and product usability.
  9. Business Acumen: Ability to think from an overall 'best for the business' perspective. This includes effective decision-making skills with the ability to negotiate and balance decisions and priorities across diverse needs. Makes timely decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.
  10. Design Excellence: Partners with Global Engineering to lead the overall Design Excellence program (primarily front-end) to ensure user, design and development, and process considerations have been raised, understood, assessed, and tested as necessary.
  11. Individual contributor: Acts as a technical individual contributor for large projects or programs. This may include supporting or leading projects as a R&D lead, assisting project teams with technical knowledge, or completing a special assignment in support of functional or business strategy.
  12. Annual budget: Prepares the annual New Product Development budget to ensure project, product, and development activities are adequately resourced and monitored throughout the year. This also includes mid-year reporting, year-end reporting, and working with the project teams (project manager and R&D engineer) quarterly to understand key milestones as it relates to the project budget.

Requirements:




  • Number of Overall Years Necessary: 12-15
  • Experience in medical device or related healthcare manufacturing, minimum 5 years supervisory experience


  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or Science)
  • Master's degree in Science or Engineering or Masters of Business (MBA) preferred



Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge:




  • Extensive product design and development experience in similar environment
  • Proven ability to develop a team culture that leads to ongoing excellence and achievement of goals
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to set goals and provide constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results
  • Strong leadership skills, decision making, and project management skills
  • Ability to concurrently manage a variety of projects and coordinate the efforts of multiple team members
  • Expertise in problem-solving skills and tools (i.e. Root Cause Analysis, Design of Experiments) with the ability to teach, coach, and train the NPD team
  • Design controls knowledge
  • Ability to analyze and use technical data and resources
  • Ability to understand all dimensions of customer requirements and knowledge of the clinical environment
  • Strong verbal and written communications with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with functions outside of R&D
  • Work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment
  • Work with external suppliers, contractors, technical professionals, and consultants as needed.
  • Fundamental understanding of process development and manufacturing as it relates to product development
  • Ability to create a vision and mobilize the team to execute against it
  • Maintains positive and cooperative communication and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and suppliers

  • The anticipated base pay range for this position is $140,000 - $204,000 yearly. The actual salary varies based on applicant's location, education, experience, skills, abilities, and other legitimate business factors.
  • If applicable: This position is also eligible to participate in the Hollister Secure Start Bonus Plan. The Company also provides a unique Benefit of Employee Share Ownership Program (BESOP) program based on earnings and length of service.
