The Clinical Pharmacist I (Specialty) oversees and supports all specialty pharmacy medication activities. Responsibilities include supervising pharmacy technicians and ensuring the clinical appropriateness of medications, such as verifying correct dosing and identifying potential drug interactions before dispensing. This role also facilitates new patient enrollment and promotes medication adherence for patients prescribed specialty medications. As the primary medication expert, the Clinical Pharmacist I (Specialty) serves as the key point of contact, providing guidance to providers, staff, and patients as needed.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Oversee the processing and preparations of all specialty medications.
  • Verify all patient information before filling a prescription.
  • Perform quality checks on prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, correct dosage, drug interactions, etc.
  • Responsible for checking all medications prior to dispensing.
  • Perform and/or oversees data entry of prescriptions in the pharmacy management systems.
  • Performs medical adherence follow-up and address any non-adherence for patients on specialty medications.
  • Provides pharmacy clinical support for all providers and staff when needed.
  • Provides consultation and medication education to patients and caregivers upon dispensing a prescription.
  • Exhibits expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their area.
  • Payer follow-up and communicate with physicians and health plans as needed.
  • Complete third-party insurance forms, patient assistance, and other paperwork as needed.
  • Ensures timely follow up regarding patient's specialty pharmacy medication management concerns.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Graduate of ACPE - Accredited Pharmacy School
  • Current CA Pharmacist License
  • BLS certification (through the American Heart Association)
  • Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP), preferred
