Job Summary:
The Occupational Medicine Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assessing, promoting, and maintaining the physical and mental well-being of client employees. This role involves conducting health assessments, identifying workplace health risks, providing health education, and implementing strategies to enhance workplace health and safety.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts medical history reviews to evaluate past medical conditions and treatments. Performs physical examinations, including vital signs, vision, and hearing checks. Administers vaccinations to protect employees against infectious diseases.
  • Administers physical fitness tests and psychological evaluations. Assesses functional capacity to ensure the ability to perform job-specific tasks.
  • Conducts regular health checks to monitor employees' health, focusing on workplace hazards. Supports employees' mental well-being through workplace stress assessments and coping strategies and counseling services for mental health issues.
  • Identifies potential workplace health risks. Develops and implements health risk mitigation strategies. Conducts ergonomic and chemical exposure assessments.
  • Provides first aid and emergency treatment. Coordinates with external healthcare providers for advanced medical care when necessary.
  • Evaluates and oversees the rehabilitation of employees returning from absences due to illness or injury. Assesses suitability for job roles following recovery and determines employees' physical and mental capability to perform job duties post-illness or injury. Implements workplace ergonomic assessments and phased return-to-work schedules.
  • Provides health education and counseling on various health topics. Promotes healthy lifestyle choices and preventive care initiatives.
  • Collaborates with employers to develop and enforce occupational health and safety policies. Ensures compliance with OSHA, CDC, EEOC-ADA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Conducts research on occupational health and safety trends. Stays updated on evolving health regulations and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited school required.
  • Valid RN license from Virginia or reciprocal compact state required.
  • Valid Nurse Practitioner license from Virginia required.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
  • DOT Medical Examiner certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in occupational health or urgent care required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and in-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and strong organizational and multitasking abilities required.
