DESCRIPTION

The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 65 faculty and clinical fellows. The department is composed of 7 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, and Urogynecologic and Reconstructive Surgery and Complex Family Planning.

This Lab Assistant 2 will work under the supervision of the P.I. and senior lab staff, to assist with performing work in cell biology/molecular biology including cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, bacterial culture, qPCR, western blot, flow cytometry and ELISA. The Lab Assistant 2 will assist with media and buffer preparation and autoclaving, make routine analyses and record results in a notebook, help with equipment maintenance and transport, handling, and inventory of hazardous, biohazardious, and non-hazardous materials and chemicals. Assist lab personnel in routine tasks to keep the research lab in smooth working order.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Theoretical knowledge of microbiology and cellular and molecular biology.

  • Willingness to follow step-wise experimental protocols.

  • Ability to use basic laboratory equipment including centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, and electrophoresis equipment.

  • Willingness to become familiar with proper handling of chemical and biohazard materials.

  • Willingness to adhere to established UCSD guidelines for safety and environmental issues.

  • Familiarity with computer software to analyze data, store results and compute raw data.

  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality.

  • Willingness to learn organizational skills as they relate to maintain lab equipment and supplies.

  • Willingness to work with other staff members, students, faculty etc.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must be willing and able to work with hazardous materials (biological and chemical).

  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

  • Evenings and weekends may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $45,999 - $54,079 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $22.03 - $25.90

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
