Pasadena, TX

The Purchasing & Inventory Specialist for Railcar Repair is responsible for implementing the procurement and inventory processes to support railcar repair operations. This role ensures the availability of required materials, tools, and supplies while optimizing costs and maintaining compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent and reliable sourcing of materials.
  • Prepare purchase orders, negotiate pricing, and coordinate delivery schedules.
  • Monitor purchasing budgets and seek opportunities to reduce costs without compromising quality.
  • Identify new suppliers and assess their suitability based on quality, reliability, and cost.
  • Track inventory levels and monitor stock to meet production and repair demands.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts to ensure records match physical stock.
  • Support the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials to maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock movements, usage, and adjustments.
  • Schedule and track shipments to ensure timely arrival of goods.
  • Address delivery issues, including delays, damaged goods, or incorrect orders.
  • Maintain records of purchase orders, supplier agreements, and inventory transactions.


Preferred Job Qualifications:



  • Technical Skills - Expertise in purchasing processes, vendor negotiations, and maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  • Experience with inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and purchasing platforms.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Strong skills in building and maintaining supplier relationships. Effective communication with operations, maintenance, and finance teams
  • Organizational Skills - Efficiently managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Accuracy in maintaining records, tracking inventory, and processing purchase orders. Quick and effective resolution of discrepancies or issues in procurement and inventory.
  • Initiative- Anticipating material needs and acting without constant supervision. Collaborating with team members to ensure smooth operations and efficient workflow.


Minimum Job Qualifications:



  • 2+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory management, or a related field
  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or railcar repair environment is a strong plus
  • 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Stable work history with good references from past employers
  • Pass a drug and alcohol, physical, and background checks
  • Speak fluent English
  • PSC is a veteran-friendly company. Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus.
