The newly created Perioperative APRN team is expanding and adding additional APPs to our team.

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in Perioperative Anesthesia will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the perioperative and anesthesia teams to provide comprehensive care to patients preop/intraop/postoperatively in the main OR and other anesthetizing locations.
  • Conducting patient/family interviews and documenting patient medical history, review of systems, physical exam in the preanesthetic evaluation.
  • Communicating the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia to patients and families
  • Offering expertise as consultant and educator to peri-operative nursing staff
  • Participating in or leading the collection of data for anesthesia cancelations, criteria changes, and improvement processes
  • Ordering, scheduling, and/or performing laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures such as urinalyses, pregnancy, blood tests, and x-rays
  • Functions as a liaison between the anesthesia attending in charge, primary anesthesia, nursing team, and family to optimize patient care
  • Prescribing and administering premedication prior to anesthesia
  • Assisting the anesthesia team in procedural areas
  • Future opportunities exist to become competent in Vascular Access and PICC line placement
  • The role will include possibilities to work in a hybrid fashion and locations include Lexington, Waltham and Boston.
  • Working 30-40 hours per week: three to four 10 hour days per week (No nights, weekends or holidays)

To qualify, you must have:

  • A Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Physician Assistant Studies and certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician assistant.
  • MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant
  • 5 years of nursing or Physician assistant experience in pediatrics (inpatient or outpatient) is preferred

*Sign-on bonus of $5,000.00 for a fulltime 40 hours (who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
