Summary:

Reporting to the President, the Vice President, Government and Community Relations (VPGCR) is responsible for the development and execution of legislative and community-based strategy for the university. The Vice President ensures the maintenance of positive and productive university relationships with local, city, state, and federal elected officials and government agencies as well as civic leaders and representatives from community-based organizations. As a member of the president's leadership team, the VPGCR has a deep understanding of the university's strategic priorities and goals, enabling the development of long-term strategic and symbiotic relationships throughout the political and public ecosystem for the advancement of those priorities and the university's mission and interests. The incumbent leads and coordinates an experienced team that cultivates critical relationships and petitions the government on issues of importance to the university at the city, state, and federal levels. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. At least ten years of experience in government and/or government relations, including lobbying, public administration, and legislative staff work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience in higher education and community relations is a plus. Required Skills & Abilities:

*Extensive working knowledge of state and federal legislative matters and protocols for community and government relations.

*Excellent public speaking and communications skills.

*Track record of managing through influence and working successfully within a complex transformative organization to create an effective, efficient culture.

*Demonstrated ability to lead teams of professionals in the development and execution of strategic goals and initiatives.

Preferred:

* Experience in the Pennsylvania/Philadelphia region is strongly preferred

*This position requires a background check.
