How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

The Director of Human Factors implementation will provide operational leadership to a comprehensive program dedicated to implementing human factors principles and best practices to improve patient safety and efficiency throughout the system. Works cooperatively with all levels of administrative and clinical staff and leadership to identify improvement opportunities related to human factors in highly complex, multi-system clinical environments using state-of-the-art analytical tools and current best practices. Facilitates multidisciplinary team improvement initiatives, and determines resources (staff, data, management) needed to accomplish goals. Directly supervises and manages a team of human factors experts, deploying their expertise based on strategic and operational priorities. Facilitates and implements complex improvement and change plans at multiple organizational levels.

Collaborates closely with senior clinical and administrative leaders to drive the future direction and growth of the Carilion Human Factors team. This position will play a critical role in shaping and executing long-term strategic initiatives, including the development of new program opportunities and initiatives. The Director will also lead efforts to enhance Human Factors' national and international presence by identifying and pursuing opportunities for conference participation, presentations, and collaborative projects with hospitals and other institutions.

Must be a recognized expert in translational and operational human factors, with some experience in scholarship and scholarly activity.

What We Require:

Education: PhD (or equivalent) in human factors engineering (or a closely related field such as Industrial & Systems Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or Safety Engineering).

Experience: Minimum of 7 years' experience in human factors development work preferably in healthcare and 2 years leadership experience.
