2025 Summer Intern - Marketing & Communications Specialist for Advancing Inclusive Research and Health Equity (AIR & HE)

Department Summary

The Genentech Chief Diversity Office (CDO) is seeking an intern for Marketing and Communications Specialist for Advancing Inclusive Research and Health Equity (AIR & HE) / Intern to support internal and external communications that advance the overall goals of the AIR & HE. This individual's contribution will mainly focus on advancing inclusive research and health equity commitments and may assist with fostering belonging and transforming society commitments for Genentech employees and communities.

The CDO supports the company's AIR &HE mission by shaping strategy, communications, partnerships, and outreach initiatives.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA , On-site

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications Lead, with a dotted line report to the Executive Director of Patient Impact and Health Equity. This role collaborates with cross-functional partners, internal communications teams, and external research sites and agencies to develop and implement marketing and communication strategies supporting Genentech's AIR & HE objectives.

  • Support the creation of communication strategies for advancing inclusive research and health equity (AIR/HE)

  • Assist in the development of AIR & HE branded materials such as newsletters, articles, social media content, and event promotions.

  • Partner with internal teams and external groups to support AIR & HE related goals and projects.

  • Review and edit internal communications, presentations, and authored articles to align with Genentech's AIR/HE narrative.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to craft compelling content for both internal and external audiences, including social media posts, blogs, and leadership communications.

  • Help maintain and enhance the AIR/HE sections of Genentech's external website and social platforms in partnership with corporate relations.

  • Help promote and gain adoption of AIR Site Alliance Educational or Inclusion Materials internally and externally.

  • Socialize AIR/HE stories for newsletters and blogs, including AIR HE Influencer Awardee Stories.

  • Support AIR HE Pillar Team Meetings

  • Track and measure the effectiveness of campaigns and communications, providing regular updates and insights to stakeholders.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12 months, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Looking for May/June 2025 graduates.

Required Majors: Communications or Marketing, or a related field including Public Health or Research.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal abilities for creating engaging content for diverse audiences, with a specific focus on health equity and inclusive research.

  • Proven experience in storytelling and message development.

  • Familiarity with various communication channels such as digital platforms, social media, and events.

  • Effective skills in project management, prioritizing, and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally, build strong relationships, and incorporate diversity and inclusion in communications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High interest and engagement in public health, clinical research, health equity and/or inclusive research.

  • Pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student) graduating in June.

  • Experience in multicultural marketing or diversity-focused communications.

  • Familiarity with tools and platforms for tracking campaign success and content performance.

  • Knowledge of the biotech or pharmaceutical industry is a plus.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $23-$40 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
