Overview

Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to fill prescriptions, deliver orders and to perform other pharmacy service duties as required.
Qualifications

Certifications:

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (NHA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or PTCB; within 2yr
Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR),

Responsibilities

Enters patient information accurately into pharmacy computer system, including, but not limited to, patient's address, patient's phone number, patient's allergies and patient's date of birth.
Enters correct medication information, including, but not limited to, medications, strength, route, number of refills and physician name.
Prioritize work to input stat and waiting prescriptions in order of importance.
Maintains order entry error rate <5% and serious order entry error rate <1%.
Fills orders with correct medication in a timely manner.
Matches NDC number on stock bottle with NDC number on Rx label.
Has pharmacist check all work before prescriptions are dispensed to the patient and keeps pharmacist informed of workload status.
Prioritizes work to fill stat and waiting prescriptions in order of importance.
Initials Rx labels on all prescriptions. Returns medications to stock and reorder medication if needed.
Can calculate appropriate medication doses based on patient's age: adult, pediatric, neonate, geriatric and adolescent.
Verifies patient name and address before giving prescriptions to patient.
Offers patient counseling by a pharmacist.
Correctly rings the transactions into the register and makes the correct change.
Maintains transfer, mail-out and return logs correctly.
Orders medications when stock is low, following the correct purchasing procedures.
Manages inventory to maximize cash flow.
Keeps Pharmacy Manager informed of shortages, outs, abnormal use and recalls.
Safely uses departmental equipment and disposes of waste in the proper containers.
Able to locate MSDS Sheets online. Demonstrates fire procedures correctly.
Follows safety standards.
Notifies Pharmacy Manager of any hazards immediately.
Participates in safety/disaster drills and in-services. Has read departmental safety manual.
Performs outdate checks on medication on a regular basis.
Performs prescription returns and insurance reversals on a regular basis.
Assists in training new staff and helps other areas when needed.
Cashes out bank accurately and in a timely manner. Performs end-of-day procedures correctly.
Actively supports the mission, goals and objective of the hospital, pharmacy department and CPS through CQI activities.
Completes specials projects correctly and on time.
Answers, places and transfers telephone calls in a courteous manner.
Identifies self by name and location.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $17.33per hour - $28.07per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
