Summary:

Provides high-quality 911 emergency medical response and/or non-emergency interfacility transport to the community and surrounding areas. Responsible for patient assessment, treatment, and safe transport following state protocols and medical command directives. Ensures compassionate and efficient care for patients in both emergency and/or scheduled transport settings. Operates ambulances safely and professionally, maintains equipment readiness, and ensures accurate documentation. Works in a fast-paced, high-impact environment with minimal supervision to support optimal patient outcomes.

Position Responsibilities:

Conducts thorough patient assessments and provides appropriate basic life support (BLS) care in accordance with New Jersey Statewide EMS Protocols and medical command directives. Administers high-quality, evidence-based care while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Operates an ambulance safely and professionally in accordance with New Jersey motor vehicle laws and department driving policies. Demonstrates defensive driving techniques, maintains situational awareness, and ensures the vehicle remains operational, fueled, and properly equipped. Reports any mechanical or operational issues promptly.

Accurately and thoroughly documents patient assessments, interventions, patient responses, and transfer of care details using the department's electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) system. Ensures all documentation meets regulatory, quality assurance, and legal standards. Promptly responds to quality assurance and medical oversight requests.

Conducts and documents vehicle and equipment check at the start of each shift. Ensures ambulances are properly stocked, equipment is in working order, and supplies are replenished as needed. Reports shortages and operational concerns to department management.

Maintains all Virtua-owned medical equipment, vehicles, and facilities in a safe, clean, and organized manner. Follows all infection control protocols and ensures proper decontamination of the ambulance and equipment after each patient transport.

Actively participates in the training and onboarding of new staff, students, and inter-agency personnel. Provides mentorship, monitors trainee performance, and offers constructive feedback to enhance clinical competency. Models professionalism, teamwork, safety, and adherence to department protocols.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:

Previous EMS field experience preferred.

New graduates from accredited EMT programs will be considered.

Required Education:

High school diploma or GED required

Graduate of a recognized Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Training Program.

Training/Certifications/Licensure:

Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic by the Commissioner of Health & Senior Services of the State of New Jersey. Certification is preferred from NJ, PA or the National Registry.

Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to the professional rescuer level, and EVOC.

Must have valid Driver's license recognized by the State of New Jersey and driving record must meet insurance company standards/requirements.

Must complete yearly PPD, Fit Test, Corporate Compliance, HIPAA and Safety Day training by the date set forth by the department.
