Position Title: Mechanical Engineer
Wage: Based on Experience Shift: 1st Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm Seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer in Des Moines, IA that will be responsible for designing, estimating costs, and securing quotations. This role involves researching, developing, designing, and testing machinery, including standard and custom products. Requires independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality. Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities: - Develop designs, sketches, layouts, and schematics - Estimate material and labor costs; secure quotations - Identify/report equipment issues; attend engineering and safety meetings - Manage A.R. expenditures, inventory, invoices, and requisitions - Schedule and oversee job installations and equipment deliveries - Inspect job installations, equipment operations, and safety - Supervise contractors and hourly workers; assist Maintenance Dept - Train new equipment operators and maintenance personnel - Design equipment and systems; draft procedures and specifications Requirements for Mechanical Engineer: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience - Minimum 3+ years in manufacturing - Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes - Proficiency in CAD (CAM preferred) - Strong mechanical, analytical, and technical skills - Excellent administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills - Ability to work independently and collaboratively - Leadership skills for resource coordination and process improvement - Knowledge of plant engineering, industrial engineering, and tooling Key Role Details: - Team Culture: Collaborative engineering team working with maintenance - Work Environment: Hands-on role (60-70% desk vs. floor) - Customer Focus: Engineering supports production success - Innovation Focus: Includes new product development and modifications - Work Conditions: Non-climate-controlled plant environment - Internship Program: Revamping to improve talent retention Interview Process: - Initial phone screening - Onsite technical interview - Final in-person meeting with leadership |
