New Orleans, LA is looking for Highway Design Engineers - Entry Level As a Highway Design Engineer with Modjeski and Masters, you will work on a variety of challenging and rewarding highway/roadway engineering projects for a myriad of transportation clients (State DOTs, Local Municipalities and Parishes). As a member of our team, you'll be immediately responsible for performing engineering tasks under the careful supervision of established and respected professionals. Positions Available -
Ideal Candidates will have:
- At minimum a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited College or University
- A valid EI certification, or in the process of obtaining.
General Responsibilities of a Highway Design Engineer:
- Coordinate with technical staff in performing a variety of non-structural engineering tasks, including the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates, under direct guidance from Project Managers and senior-level engineers.
- Highway Design, including but not limited to roadway geometrics, drainage, permanent signage and striping, intersections, work zone traffic control, guardrail layouts, and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs).
- Develop conceptual plans for Feasibility Studies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including occasional field assignments and assistance with statements of interest and technical/price proposals
- Review and check standard highway design calculations and drawings.
- Develop contract plan details using CAD software.
- Communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Provide technical writing for design reports and feasibility studies.
- Perform and check quantity take-offs from contract plans.
- Coordinate with Teaming Subconsultants for topographic and property survey, geotechnical services, traffic analysis and environmental permitting.
- Use engineering CAD and analysis software such as Bentley MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoTurn, LADOTD's Hydrologic and Hydraulic Programs (HydroWIN), HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS.
- Able to learn and correctly apply relevant design guidelines and policies, including:
- AASHTO:
- A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets
- Roadside Design Guide
- Guide for Planning, Design and Operation of Pedestrian Facilities
- Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities
- Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
- State DOT specific Highway Design Policies and Guidelines
