Position Summary

UNM Online promotes access to high-quality education and the success of online learners across the state and around the world. We are seeking an enthusiastic Student Recruiter to add to our Marketing, Outreach, Recruitment, and Retention (MORR) team. The ideal candidate has excellent communication and networking skills and enjoys frequent interaction with students. Under indirect supervision, this position works with current and future students to support online program enrollment and retention goals, with a specific focus on non-traditional students, working adults, geographically dispersed learners, and others seeking access to higher education.

The preferred candidate will enjoy:

  • Student outreach and engagement with a diverse student community, from recruitment to graduation
  • Collaboration on developing engaging and relevant social media content and marketing materials, aimed at online students
  • Coordination with academic departments and support organizations to connect online students to campus resources

This position provides critical interactions with current and prospective online students, engages with academic units and student support offices across the Albuquerque campus, attends events in Albuquerque and across the state as a UNM Online representative delivering presentations and otherwise sharing information about online learning, and participates in ongoing professional development.

This is a hybrid position. It requires in-person meetings on the Albuquerque campus and travel throughout the state.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Provides outreach, recruitment services and integrated advising to prospective online students. Support current students by offering wayfinding services that support academic success and personal well-being.
  2. Contributes to the development and coordination of recruitment and retention plans and strategies.
  3. Visits UNM branch campuses, other community colleges, New Mexico employers and attend other events to speak to groups and individual students about online learning. Arrange opportunities for current and prospective students to meet with integrated advisors in a virtual meeting space.
  4. Supports the coordination of meetings with key partners on and off campus to promote outreach activities and workshops.
  5. Contributes to managing a database of potential students, admits and carry out leads-nurturing activities.
  6. Prepares or supports the development of written materials, art copy and press releases. Coordinates and distributes materials at campus engagements and events throughout the state.
  7. Significantly participates in student engagement. Tracks and reports on inquiry data submitted by prospective and current students, parents, faculty, staff and the general public. Prepares reports and proposals regarding recruitment and outreach activities.
  8. Contributes to the operational goals of the MORR team and UNM Online overall. Implements and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations of the Student Recruiter role.
  9. Carries out student recruitment and enrollment management activities utilizing specific knowledge of UNM admissions, registration, and financial aid.
  10. Communicates using diverse media such as phone, email, social media platforms, chatbot, and Salesforce.
  11. Supports the development and maintenance of partnerships between the University, alumni, faculty, community partners and other groups.
  12. Assists with outreach and retention activities designed to attract, retain, and serve online students; supports activity logistics, which may include compiling materials and participating in marketing efforts.
  13. Coordinates and participates in outreach, recruitment and marketing activities, tabling events, presentations, orientations and workshops.
  14. Serves as support to the unit's primary Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations, programs, or workshops to large and small audiences that meet student needs.
  • Strong customer service skills including an ability to provide leadership and guidance to students.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Knowledge of the University's recruitment workflow, admission requirements and application processes.
  • Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills.
  • Skill in the configuration and use of computerized database programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to manage and maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations school policies, and other state and federal laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Conditions of Employment
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with online learning, gained professionally or through personal experiences.
  • Personal or professional knowledge of the needs, concerns and issues facing online students.
  • Professional experience with academic advising in higher education.
  • FERPA knowledge/certification.
  • Strong listening, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to comfortably use Office 356 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Teams, and other cloud services.
  • Knowledge of customer relationship management tools, particularly Salesforce.
  • Reside within commuting distance of UNM's Albuquerque campus.
  • Have a valid driver's license or obtain a valid driver's license within thirty days of hire.
  • Ability to travel locally and statewide.
