Associate Director, Illingworth Research Group (IRG) Global Operations

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the oversight of the conduct of a program or portfolio of projects. Provides leadership, direction and management to IRG Global Operations staff in the assigned area, overseeing operating activities of assigned staff to ensure project deliverables are met. Acts as primary point of contact for
resourcing escalations, ensuring utilization, performance and development of Operational staff. May liaise with other departments or business units to establish harmonize operational practices, processes and tools. Contributes to operational initiatives. May be required assist or deputize where necessary or undertake specific project management duties, if required, to ensure continued project/program continuity.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Oversee a project portfolio, reviewing progress status reports, project finances, risks and issues raised by the Project Team. Provide oversight of project management activities and act as a decisionmaking authority.
  • Own and manage the relationship with named clients, providing a senior client contact point and an escalation point for project issues. Represent the company to the customer, ensuring satisfaction levels are maintained and program deliverables are communicated effectively.
  • Ensure the projects progress according to internal and client quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate project/enterprise tracking and analysis tools, systems and reports, and action findings accordingly. Provide reports and updates to the departmental leadership and other internal stakeholders on program progress
  • Ensure consistency in contingency planning and risk mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery. Regularly review risks across the portfolio and ensure risk mitigation solutions are implemented. Identify risks or issues that require internal or client escalation.
  • Conduct project reviews with the Project Manager and Project Financial Analyst to assess the milestones, quality issues and client relationship, and the financial health of projects including the need for Change Orders. Ensure timely payment of invoices across the portfolio.
  • Build and maintain an in depth therapeutic and/or client specific knowledge and expertise for the assigned portfolio. Apply project/client specific learning across assigned portfolio of work and/or the wider portfolios, as applicable. Share insights with internal stakeholders to facilitate business strategy execution.
  • Where appropriate generate and implement governance charters, coordinating delivery of items detailed within the charter e.g., Key Performance Indicator (KPI) report compilation and delivery, and meeting planning, execution, and follow-up.
  • Support in the identification and implementation of organizational and process improvement initiatives, to drive performance, operational efficiencies, and innovative strategies.
  • Provide operational input into client proposals and budgets, to support the BD, Proposals or Strategy lead with establishing operational strategy of projects and/or new service offerings, where requested.
  • Oversee resourcing for all awarded projects under the portfolio. Ensure all projects are suitably
  • resourced with appropriately experienced team members and utilization targets are met. Continue to oversee resourcing of the project through to close-out.
  • Provide line management, including inducting, mentoring, coaching and day-to-day administrative requests such as annual leave and absence approvals, and be the first point of contact for Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
  • Manage the performance appraisal cycle, setting business and development objectives for direct reports.
  • Ensure direct report compliance with all required project and non-project related training, e.g., SOPs, systems training, GCP training, etc. Provide and/or reinforce training in the context of the project/s being managed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, nursing degree, or equivalent related experience, plus at least 3-5 years of extensive clinical research experience in a contract research organization, pharmaceutical or Biotechnology Company, including some time in a leadership capacity or equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with GCP/ICH guidelines and other applicable regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, tactical and strategic thinking skills. Demonstrate understanding of the workflow process, roles and responsibilities of multiple functional areas. Knowledge of financial concepts as related to forecasting and budgeting.
  • Ability to understand, explain and communicate project concepts and put into detailed plans. Ability to anticipate and address critical issues; and develop contingency plans in a proactive manner.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email, and voicemail. Ability to gain working knowledge in other applicable business tools and systems.
  • Requires above average attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational, interpersonal, and teamoriented skills. This includes excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken, with an ability to inform, influence, convince, and persuade.
  • Ability to travel as necessary (minimal).

The annual base salary for this position ranges $80,000 to $140,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
