Advanced Practice Provider - Urgent Care

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for providing primary health care and treatment of patients under the supervision of or in consultation with a physician.

Job Functions


  1. Provides general patient care under the direction of or in consultation with a physician utilizing the process of observation, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  2. Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient clinical problems and health care needs.
  3. Consults with physician regarding unusual or abnormal cases and makes appropriate referrals for evaluation or treatment.
  4. Provides input in the development of policies, programs, procedures or protocols for the clinic.
  5. Performs preventative health counseling and instructs patients in treatment plans.
  6. Performs patient follow-up.
  7. Assists physicians with procedures.
  8. Recognizes and responds appropriately to medical emergencies including telephone triage.
  9. Serves as a patient advocate and resource to clinical staff.
  10. Assists in planning, evaluation, coordination and revision of patient care services.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience


  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • CPR Certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Ability to effectively handle high-stress fast paced environment
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

License/Certifications


  • Current Minnesota Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant licensure and CPR Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years previous NP/PA experience in a primary care or urgent care setting
