THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, it will be your responsibility to provide structured on-the-job training and shop instruction for inmates in the refrigeration mechanic trade. Your work will involve supervising and instructing inmates during both classroom and on-the-job training and work assignments. You will also be responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates during their training and work assignments. Work orders, accompanied by diagrams, drawings, sketches, or blueprints, will be your main source of guidance, and it will be up to you to determine the procedures, tools, equipment, and materials to be used by inmates in carrying out their assignments. Your work will be performed under general supervision and reviewed by a technical or administrative supervisor through conferences, reports, and inspection of completed assignments in accordance with industry and trade competency standards. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,846.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

Special Requirement:
  • You must be in possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
