The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix is seeking a highly motivated Educational Guidance Counselor to join the Education Department and work with inmates to identify educational and vocational goals. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Education Guidance Counselor, you will have the opportunity to provide orientation to new inmates with regards to educational requirements and available programming within SCI Phoenix. You will interview and counsel inmates to determine educational objectives, career development, post educational goals, or higher educational goals, and assist with resume writing, mock interviews, and job search efforts prior to reentry into the community. This professional also provides individual and group counseling and guidance on the enrollment process for adult basic education (ABE) and GED classes. In addition, you will assist with selecting and enrolling inmates in vocational classes based on academic level, interests, and availability of courses. - Full-time employment, 37.5 hours/week.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, behavioral sciences, education, social work, counseling, or a closely related field; or
- Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and four years of paraprofessional experience in education, social work, or counseling; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of training academy in Elizabethtown, PA.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
