Anakim Consulting Inc. has an opening for a Network Engineer to work onsite in support of a mission critical production environment. This is a mid-level position and requires a strong working knowledge of wired, wireless, VPN and authentication applications as they relate to the Local Area Network. The Network Engineer will support a variety of network engineering tasks including design and implementation of integrated networks. Support will include hardware and software for facilities and equipment. Qualified candidates will have the ability to coordinate activities with the engineering team and support independent tasks, as assigned. This position requires an analyst mindset and the ability to show attention to detail for troubleshooting, hands-on tasks, and supporting documentation.

Responsibilities include:



  • Plan and perform network engineering research, design development, and other assignments in conformance with network design, engineering, and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate the activities of Network Technicians assigned to specific network engineering projects.
  • Perform with some latitude for independent actions and decisions.
  • Analyze risk and react in the best interest of network stability.
  • Troubleshoot, deploy and upgrade Cisco/Juniper and Aruba LAN equipment with limited direction.
  • Follow pre-defined process and workflow.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation
  • Monitor trouble ticket queues and react to incidents based on defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Communicate one-on-one with customers via telephone, email, and instant message.
  • Work closely with peers and local technicians to identify and repair physical layer issues.
  • Work with other NOC teams to identify WAN, firewall, security, and DDI problems affecting the LAN.
  • Participate in regular operations staff meetings to review project(s) status and learn about upcoming activities.
  • Support on-site work schedule.
  • Support on-call rotation for after-hours escalations and critical outages.



Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:



  • U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship)
  • Ability to obtain security access (Public Trust level)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline is preferred

    • Equivalent years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree


  • 5-9 years of related experience with network management and troubleshooting

    • 5 years with a bachelor's degree


  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, deploying, and upgrading Cisco/Juniper and Aruba LAN equipment with limited direction
  • Current CCNA Certification
  • Hands-on working knowledge at CCNA level implementation and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of VoIP networking systems and internet security
  • Working knowledge of network authentication process and/or Cisco ISE deployments for closed networks
  • Cisco switch/router CLI
  • Putty/Secure CRT
  • Experience supporting VPN fundamental concepts through Cisco ASAs
  • Experience with Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers
  • Ability to be self-directed and take direction well
  • Approach problems with creativity and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to develop plans that consider importance, urgency, risks, and the best interest of the customer
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently, as assigned
  • Availability to support on-site work schedule at Marshall Space Flight Center
  • Availability to support on-call rotation for after-hours escalations and critical outages
