Position Summary |
The Assistant Director for Student Involvement is a member of the Campus Life team, and reports directly to the Senior Director of Campus Life. The Assistant Director for Student Involvement is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position in the Division of Student Affairs.
This position supports 70+ Registered Student Organizations (including social sororities and fraternities), and serves as the primary contact for student involvement opportunities on campus. The Assistant Director for Student Involvement plays a pivotal role in enhancing and promoting a sense of belonging at
UNC Asheville. As such, the Assistant Director will directly support the Involvement Ambassadors, registered student organizations, and fraternity and sorority life by developing clear pathways for student engagement, belonging, and success.
This position is a key stakeholder for student organizations events as well as involvement programs such as Involvement Fair, Weeks of Welcome, and other campus-wide involvement events.
As a member of the Campus Life and Division of Student Affairs teams, this position will uphold the values of the University mission, will focus on the importance of placing people first, and will have at the forefront of their thinking an intentional design for student learning. |

Required Education/Experience/Skills |
This position requires a Master's degree in Student Personnel, Student Development, Higher Education, or a related field. Candidates in the final semester of completing a degree in these fields may also be considered. |
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills |
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience working in a higher education setting. The ideal candidate will also have strong organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of and/or experience working with development identity issues of today's college student is desired. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
Demonstrated knowledge of working with college students in a higher education setting, preferably in the area of campus activities, student organizations, Greek life, leadership development and programming. Demonstrated skills in working with students to enhance their personal and professional development.
Basic knowledge of budgeting and accounting, artist contract negotiation, and the ability to manage and minimize risk is essential.
The successful candidate will demonstrate competencies in the following areas:
- Accuracy, attention to details, and timeliness.
- Networking with university colleagues, community members, and alumni.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to complete multiple complex projects at the same time.
- Working knowledge of student affairs/development.

- Professional competency areas prescribed by NASPA for student affairs professionals.
