Role Summary:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Designer is a key member of the engineering team. The Designer is responsible for performing electrical design services for projects under the direction of the project Engineer. This includes, but is not limited to, creating design-basis drawings (single line drawings, AC & DC schematics, Bills of Material (BOM) & construction details) and point-to-point wiring drawings associated with protective relaying panels, instrument & control panels and other equipment being installed in electric utility and industrial facilities.
Exciting work you will do:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Designer will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Design point-to-point wiring drawings associated with protective relaying panels, instrument & control panels and other equipment being installed in electric utility and industrial facilities
  • Create design-basis drawings (single line drawings, AC & DC schematics, Bills of Material (BOM) & construction details)
  • Generate Customer and project specific wiring and interconnection drawings from vendor drawings
  • Generate steel designs and layouts of panels, cabinets, and enclosures and their associated drilling and mounting details
  • Provide design & drafting estimates for projects being bid
  • Recommend design-related quality improvements and assist in the development and implementation of QA Design Control procedures/work instructions
  • Other duties as assigned such as but not limited to:

    • Shop support (wiring questions, design review of customer provided drawings, BOM clarifications, etc.)
    • Proposal support

What you'll need:

  • Work Experience: 4 years of electrical design experience in electric utility and industrial facilities
  • Education: Associate's degree in engineering technology or related field
  • Analytics/Computer Skills: 4 years of experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, the ability to read electrical drawings and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Organization Skills: Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to multi-task and shift priorities as needed; ability to work in fast-paced, continuously evolving environment; time management skills
  • Cross-functional skills: Ability to work well cross-functionally; provides excellent internal and external customer service
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills; Strong interpersonal skills; strong analytical skills; ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Physical Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to temperature conditions and noise levels prevalent in an office environment. Work conditions at customer sites, which may be actively under construction, vary from indoor to outdoor industrial & electric utility facilities that may have high voltage equipment.
  • Travel: Limited local travel with some off hours as required
  • Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Certifications: Ability to obtain security clearances


Skills we prefer but don't require:


  • Analytics/Computer Skills: Certified in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; Working knowledge of Raster Design software. Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or related field.
