Tool and Die Machinist Composed of Chromalox, Durex Industries, Vulcanic, and Thermocoax businesses, Electrical Thermal Solutions (ETS), part of Spirax Group, creates electrical process heating and temperature management solutions, including industrial heaters and systems, heat tracing, and a range of component technologies. At Chromalox, we build advanced thermal technologies for the world's most challenging industrial heating applications. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we got our start with an innovative solution 100 years ago when a self-taught engineer invented the first metal-sheathed resistance heating element. It was this then-advanced thermal technology that launched an entire industry. We excel in industries that have high expectations. We are acknowledged as experts at delivering solutions that exceed specifications, limit risk, and reduce operating costs. Join us as we continue to provide solutions to our customers and the world!
The Role: As the Tool and Die Machinist, you will set up and operate variety of manual and CNC machine tools, such as, lathes, milling machines, EDM, shapers, and grinders, to machine metal work pieces such as patterns and machine tool or die parts, according to specifications, tooling instructions, and standard charts. Your Responsibilities:
- Analyzes specification and determines tooling, applying knowledge of metal properties, machining and shop mathematics.
- Studies blueprint or layout on work piece to visualize machining required and plans sequence of operations.
- Lifts work piece manually or using hoist and positions and secures it to holding device such as machine table, chuck, or fixture, using wrenches and aids, such as shims, parallel blocks, planter gauges, clamps.
- Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instruction, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operations
- Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches.
- Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
- Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and turns hand wheel to feed tool to work piece or vice versa, and engages feed.
- Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers and CMM.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
- Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.
- Conducts tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
- May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions of the department working at different work stations as production needs require.
- Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.
- Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.
Support of company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines and/or tools.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals.
- Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- Work requires continual attention to detail in follow through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
