Position Title: Business Product Owner - Digital Payments

Position Summary:

The Business Product Owner - Digital Payments is responsible for the strategic development, management, and enhancement of the credit union's digital payment solutions. This includes peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, bill pay, ACH, wire transfers, real-time payments (RTP), card-based payments, and other emerging digital payment methods. The role ensures seamless, secure, and competitive payment experiences that drive member engagement, satisfaction, and efficiency.

As the primary business owner for digital payments, this position collaborates with internal teams, vendors, and technology partners to implement new capabilities, optimize processes, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering exceptional digital experiences to credit union members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Digital Payments Strategy & Roadmap:

  • Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for digital payments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and member needs.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging payment technologies, and competitive offerings to ensure the credit union remains ahead in the digital payments space.
  • Identify opportunities for new payment solutions and enhancements to existing offerings, prioritizing based on member impact and business value.

Product Management & Enhancements:

  • Serve as the business lead for digital payment platforms, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Work with IT, risk, compliance, and fraud prevention teams to enhance security measures and minimize fraud in digital payments.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors to implement and optimize real-time payments (RTP), FedNow, Zelle, bill pay, ACH, wire transfers, and other payment solutions.
  • Oversee API integrations and third-party partnerships to streamline digital payment processes.
  • Improve user experience by refining payment flows, reducing friction, and optimizing mobile and online interfaces.

Data-Driven Optimization & Performance Management:

  • Analyze digital payment transaction data to track performance, identify pain points, and optimize processes.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to digital payments adoption, transaction success rates, fraud incidents, and member satisfaction.
  • Conduct research and gather member feedback to enhance digital payment features and functionality.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure all digital payment solutions comply with industry regulations, NACHA rules, and security standards such as PCI-DSS.
  • Work closely with risk and compliance teams to maintain adherence to federal and state regulations, including Reg E and Reg Z.
  • Stay up to date with evolving payment regulations and proactively implement necessary changes.

Preferred Platforms & Technology Stack:

  • P2P & RTP Payments: Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, RTP Networks, FedNow
  • Bill Pay & Money Movement: Plaid, Finzly, iPay or similar payment hub platform
  • Card-Based Payments: Visa Direct, Mastercard Send, Tokenization platforms/Digital wallets
  • ACH & Wires: Finzly, or similar platforms

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Licensure, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in digital banking, product management, or fintech-related roles.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Zelle, RTP, FedNow, Visa Direct, Mastercard Send, or Alacriti platforms.
  • Experience working within a credit union or financial institution managing payment products.
  • Familiarity with fraud prevention tools and digital identity verification solutions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of digital payment ecosystems, including ACH, RTP, P2P, card-based payments, and bill pay.
  • Experience working with APIs, payment processing networks, and third-party payment providers.
  • Knowledge of compliance and security requirements related to digital payments (NACHA, PCI-DSS, Reg E, FedNow).
  • Data-driven mindset with experience analyzing payment transaction trends and making informed recommendations.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and vendor management skills.

  • Our company offers a dynamic hybrid work arrangement, which requires three days on-site, in the Sugar Land, TX office. Our retail roles are required to be onsite at the branch locations.
