We are seeking a Building Performance Consultant II in Madison, Wisconsin. Multiple positions are available. Responsibilities: In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Identify building system options and design strategies (conventional and non-conventional) for analysis and establishes analysis criteria and methods.
- Use whole building and component simulation - including thermal comfort, natural ventilation, and passive design - and analysis tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, IES-VE, Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, Ladybug tools, and Lightstanza) to evaluate capital project and planning engagements, building system performance, building system sizing and design, and architectural design development.
- Perform economic analysis (life-cycle cost, simple payback, return on investment, etc.) of building design strategies to support system selection and design optimization.
- Effectively present and review system strategies and equipment with project team members, project partners and clients.
- Perform energy and water related building rating system and code research as applicable to the project.
- Perform energy audits of existing building operations, complete energy consumption calculations, and identify potential energy reduction measures for implementation.
- Complete building rating system and code compliance documentation required for project certifications and permits.
- Coordinate and collaborate with project team members in the analysis of systems and system components. Coordination occurs primarily through interpersonal communication during coordination/one-on-one sessions and through the use of appropriate software (e.g., AutoCAD & Revit).
- Work to establish a positive working relationship with project partners based on competence, trust and respect.
- Work with Project Manager and senior staff to establish project workplans. Anticipate and meet project deadlines including balancing multiple projects and priorities while responding to changes in deadline, scope, and design as they occur.
- Delegate work, identify specific tasks, and balance work for Building Performance Consultant I or subject matter expert in order to meet client demands and project deadlines. Review work for completeness and accuracy.
- Use effective writing and presentations skills to prepare analysis and consulting reports and presentation materials in PowerPoint, PowerBI, Adobe InDesign, or other comparable software.
- Participate in project meetings as discipline representative; record meeting notes; share project correspondence and documents with appropriate staff.
- Perform quality review of own work and provides quality review of work performed by Building Performance Consultant I staff.
- Attend industry conferences and trainings with supervisor approval. Participate in the advancement of building performance practice; including the review or workflow processes, advancement of analysis tools, and incorporating knowledge gained from participating in conferences and trainings.
- Benchmark project design, simulated and measured performance data, while also being responsible to review benchmark data provided by Building Performance Consultant I.
Job requires up to 5% domestic travel. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related engineering discipline, plus 2 years of experience in building systems, including knowledge of at least one discipline such as HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, lighting, instrumentation and controls, or building envelope systems. In addition, the following specific skills are required:
- 2 years of experience in high performance design including renewable and alternative energy strategies, daylighting, embodied energy, indoor environmental quality, material composition, water efficiency, life cycle assessment, and built environment planning.
- 2 years of experience designing whole building simulations using EnergyPlus or IES-VE (Integrated Environmental Solutions - Virtual Environment)
- 2 years of experience performing climate, comfort, and daylight analysis using Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, LadyBug tools, or Lightstanza
- 2 years of experience with AutoCAD and Revit software for building performance analysis and consulting;
- 2 years of experience with interpreting applicable rating systems, design codes, and standards;
- 2 years of experience with PowerPoint, PowerBI, or Adobe Indesign to assemble presentation material for client meetings and project deliverables.
